I love great stories with dynamic characters and this book delivers. I fell in love with Clampett's writing style and storytelling in Animate Me (A MUST READ) and she follows through in a whole new way with Work of Art. It's a beautiful, emotionally haunting story that had me wanting more more more. She pulled me right into the story and I couldn't put it down. Great job and cannot wait for the next two books.

Ruth Clampett does it again with the first installment of her Work of Art Series! Passion, Art, Food, - what more could you want from this insightful author who writes expertly about all three while unveiling and unraveling a seductive and mysterious story about a smart and capable young girl as she makes her mark in the LA, New York, and Global Art Scene. Improving on her writing formula for Animate Me, this story has cleverly placed Chapter Titles and intriguing thought provoking art related quotes as well as a Los Angeles Landmark Restaurant tour that only an LA Native like Ruth can dish out! I read this fantastic book in one sitting - could not put it down - and now I must patiently wait with bated breath for the next installment!.....please, Ruth! don't make us wait too long!!!!!

This author's writing is a work of art. The art of introducing characters that are real and gritty with unpolished edges. Developing a story that makes you eagerly turn the page wanting to discover what she has written next. Romance that has you pulling for a love that is tangled and imperfect. Please don't miss out on a great book and a story that will tattoo itself to your heart.

I love Ruth Clampett. First in a series, Work of Art leaves me clamoring for more. I'm so pleased and thrilled by each of her books, and Work of Art is another well-done story. I love the characters and relationships - set in the Art world, with Max - a volatile, womanizing, well-known bad boy artist meeting Ava, who works in the art world and is a writer. He's a hot mess, and his behavior seems so arbitrary...getting to know him is a slow burn. Ava balances Max's volatility and prevents him from total self-destruction, despite the fact that they dance around one another for the whole book. Ava finds herself behaving lovingly to him almost to her own surprise. It was a small frustration that the bulk of the book is threaded with everyone around each of them warning them to stay away from each other, and since the story is in Ava's POV, we only understand why *she* should clearly stay away from Max, not why he so deeply fights to not just stay away from her, but to do it in a hurtful way. I know we'll learn more in the next book. Ava can't help but see Max's constant pulling her in and pushing her away as a flaw in herself. It's a tiny bit incongruous with her strength, because she is a very strongly-written woman! So many layers to this story, it's very much like a fine painting in itself. A foundation is laid, and many characters and complex relationships are added along the way to complete the picture...but also leave you wondering and wanting more. And BOY do I want more. Can't wait for the next book!

Work of Art is a fantastic book! Ruth Clampett takes her readers into the world of fine art and shows both the alluring and seedy sides of an industry that is based on aesthetic pleasure.

Ava is a young woman on a mission. She is learning everything she can about the art world so she can take those experiences and turn them into her dream career. What she didn't bargain for is Maxwell Caswell.
Max is a hot commodity on the art scene. He is extremely talented, in demand by both collectors and art groupies. Everyone wants a piece of him and hope to latch on to his rising star. He, however, is his own worst enemy.

Ruth opens up the art world and gives her readers a glimpse from a perspective they normally might not have. She shows the glitz and glamour as well as the business side of things. How artists find their inspiration and work through the creative process. I learned so much in reading this book.
I loved how Ava was both conflicted in her feelings, but aware enough to assess them.

Doesn't every young woman at one point have a handsome teacher or boss she fantasizes about. And if they show her special attention, the allure can be hard to resist.

She is forced to look at her belief system when she experiences attentions on multiple fronts.

There's nothing more seductive than a man who makes it clear that he wants you. As much as the feminist in me hates to admit it, his admiration is confidence boosting.

Ava also reflects on how her behaviors might be based on trying to fill a void, rather than admitting her true feelings.

I know it's wrong...a wrong that may become another regret in the morning. But none of the wrongs are compelling enough to make me stop when I've felt so undesirable all day.

I have had the privileged to read each of Ruth's books and as much as I love Nathan in Animate Me. Max truly stole the show! I went into this book thinking I was going to get another sweet and quirky love story which is what I've come to know and love from Ruth's books, but this one! It was so different then what I thought it was going to be...

Max is an artist, a painter, and a HOT MESS! He's moody and cocky, he really knows that his work is the cream of the crop, but along with that come fortune and fame and that's where he has a difficult time dealing. When he's with his bevy of art groupies he is a real turn off of epic proportions, but when he's sincere and caring and showing the emotional side of him very few get to see... Well that side makes you fall in love! His biggest demon is himself. There were moments so emotional in this book that I broke down for Max and wanted to truly give him a big hug.

Ava is a dream, I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE HER! She is strong and she doesn't take Max's crap, she just gives it right back to him. Unfortunately as she works through the layers of Max she finds more then she's bargained for. But even then she remains true to character and doesn't let him walk all over her... This is going to be an emotional ride for Ava and she knows she has to be strong for Max to endure the rocky road ahead.

I can't wait to see where this goes in BOOK 2! I can only imagine after the tumultuous ending we aren't in for a smooth ride anytime soon!
