The Work Sharp 3000 wood tool sharpener let's you monitor stock removal from above with the "see-through" wheel while a large port provides access from underneath. This works exceptionally well for sharpening large turning tools quickly and efficiently while also providing a means to sharpen and hone carving tools, especially the smaller profiles that require a more delicate touch. This is an air cooled, dry sharpening system that uses maintenance free 150mm tempered glass wheels to which you adhere PSA abrasives. Slotted "see-through" wheel allows for fast and precise sharpening of carving and lathe tools. The precise and repeatable sharpening port enables sharpening of 20, 25, 30, and 35 degree angle chisels and plane irons up to 2" wide. No jigs are needed; just select angle and sharpen. Lapping abrasive in the sharpening port increases burr removal and speeds sharpening. The rigid bevel angle settings and skew cam provide precise positioning of the sharpening port. Bevel and skew geometry are not affected by wheel diameter, chisel size, or complex user setup. Forced air-cooling and the sharpening port heat sink allow for higher material removal rates without affecting the steel temper. It allows for quick reshaping of a new or damaged chisel, and fast honing of a micro bevel. The precise bevel angles are set in the sharpening port, not in a fixture or jig, so switching between angles is simple and fast. No re-calibration is required for changing wheel diameter or tool size. Coarse grind for rapid shaping and then micro-fine hone all in one port. The Work Sharp 3000 comes with a 2 year manufacturer's warranty and the following accessories: 2 tempered float glass wheels, a "see-through" slotted wheel, top tool rest, crepe stick, and PSA abrasive kit. It has a 110V, 1/5 hp motor, 580 rpm (gear reduced), and weighs 16 lbs.
The Work Sharp WS3000 Wood Tool Sharpener is an easy-to-use dry sharpening system for chisels, plane irons, lathe tools, carving tools, and other woodworking tools. Designed for the serious woodworker, this sharpening system is packed with unique features that make it easy to achieve consistent angles on flat blades and contoured tools.
Sharp tools mean you can cut through tougher materials and create more precise details. They reduce the amount of strain work puts on your body and make you much less likely to damage your work surface or hurt yourself. But stopping to sharpen tools interrupts the flow of work, and with some systems it's quite difficult.
With the Work Sharp WS3000 Wood Tool Sharpener, you can sharpen blades quickly, consistently, and easily without making a mess or delaying a project.
Quick, Consistent Sharpening
Precision tools like small chisels are extra tricky to sharpen freehand on large, rough wheels. That's why the sharpening port on the WS3000 is so innovative. This port, which handles blades from 1/8 inch to 2 inches, makes it incredibly easy to sharpen the bevel on small tools from underneath the wheel.
Angles of 20, 25, 30, and 35 degrees are set in the machine, so you don't need an extra jig or a special tool to ensure that you are creating a bevel edge with a consistent, effective angle. You can also achieve a perfect five-degree micro-bevel for fast re-honing.
An adjustable fence in the port keeps the tool square during sharpening, and when you pull the tool back out of the port, a ceramic oxide lapping abrasive automatically removes the burr on the back of the tool for a clean finish and a sharp cutting edge.
Convenient Sharpening Options
When you are working with bigger tools, a conveniently placed tool rest makes it easy to hold larger blades in place as you sharpen them freehand on the top of the wheel. Also available is a wide blade attachment that enables you to sharpen and hone blades up to three inches wide with the Work Sharp 3000 (not included).
And when it comes time to sharpen contoured tools, you can slip an innovative slotted Edge-Vision wheel onto the WS3000. This lets you look through the wheel to see the edge of the tool you are sharpening from below, taking the guesswork out of maintaining lathe tools and other curved or v-shaped blades.
Durable Glass Wheels Provide Consistency
In addition to the Edge-Vision wheel, this sharpener comes with two tempered glass wheels. The big advantage of tempered glass is that it maintains its flatness and won't wear down like a traditional grinding wheel.
You can attach a wide variety of standard six-inch, adhesive-backed abrasive disks to these wheels, making it easy to select the grit you need for rough grinding or fine honing. And with two disks, you can always have four different grits ready to go (one on each wheel surface), making it easy to move from task to task.
In order to avoid the hassle and mess of expensive wet sharpening systems, this dry system uses routed airflow from the motor and a special heat-sink design to keep your tools from overheating. This means you don't have to worry about damaging the edge you just created or ruining the temper of steel tools.
To make all this possible, Work Sharp uses a quiet 1/5-HP motor that produces a high torque max wheel speed of 580 rpm. This low-rpm wheel maintains speed regardless of load for improved consistency, so whether your specialty is custom furniture, cabinetry, or old-fashioned wooden toys, you can rely on the WS3000 to keep your tools sharp and ready for use.
This award-winning Work Sharp tool is backed by a full two-year warranty.

Top customer reviews
Now as to the product itself: Set up is easy. You can begin sharpening within ten minutes. Use of the system is equally as easy in most respects. You can find videos on youtube that show the tool being used. When you see the videos and reviews, if you’re like me, you see them cutting their arm hair with the chisel afterwards and think there’s no way I can get my chisel that sharp. WRONG! Even with my inexperience and lack of skill, I was able to work through the discs and get a mirror finish, micro bevel edge, and shave some arm hair (not sure who thought that was a good way to demonstrate sharpness) within 10 minutes per chisel.
Now the reason this did not get 5 stars: The tool is NOT ideal for flattening the backs of chisels of any width. Most importantly, DO NOT, try to flatten the back of narrower chisels. I’ve ruined my smaller mortise chisels trying to flatten them. What happens is you have to carefully lay the chisel flat on the wheel (while it is turning) and ensure that the chisel stays flat. This is not an easy task to do, but ultimately it only takes a moment on the machine to round a square edge (mortise chisel) or grind a gouge into the back/sides of the small chisels. Even with the fact that the machine ruined my narrower chisels, I still give this 4 stars. I know now not to even try it. If you have some you want to practice on and feel you can get better at it, go for it. I recommend you use your stone to keep the back/edges flat and then use machine to sharpen the chisel edge itself. Also a quick note on my block plane iron, it was easy to sharpen and it was pulling long shavings in no time. The design and ease of use is worth the money and will (if you’re like me) bring life into your old chisels.
Also, it would be nice if the system had a case that fit all the accessories. Since it doesn’t, I have to keep mine in a box. LOOK do not buy a stone holding on to the past ways of doing things. If your blade gets dull, you can pull this out, put on the right grit wheel and have a new, sharp edge in a few minutes. As always, take it for what its worth.
Price of the initial unit itself, accessories, and the consumables - sandpaper, the glass platens etc. These are not cheap and have to ordered from work sharp (or retailers like Amazon). As with most things you pay for good quality, however it is one of the few negative of this system.
Limited to the abrasives brands, grits and styles sold by worksharp (unless of course you pull a stumpy nubs)
Now that I have that out of the way ...
MADE (VERY WELL) IN THE USA ...
This is a very well, designed and well built machine. While there is an ample amount of plastic in this unit, it does not look or feel cheap and in fact the plastic is quite solid. It seems that the parts of the unit that take more of the stress were built of metal.
The motor sounds strong and steady - for what that's worth.
The unit is very intuitive to use (although I had watched numerous videos on it prior to use) and there was barely a learning curve. Using an old beat up chisel, I was able to get up and running within a few minutes literally. Got the chisel to a brand new 25 degree edge - all the nicks and chips were removed - plus a 30 degree microbevel. The chisel performs awesome now.
Was able to pick up a few cheap chisels at lowes and get them honed to a point of slicing paper ....
This thing is well worth the initial investment - the kit comes with everything needed to get started. The paper, while expensive, does seem to last especially if cleaned after each use. Worksharp provides a cleaning stick with the kit.
If you desire, you can buy your own sandpaper and cut it to size.
Now I have the capability to touch up the chisels on the fly without much downtime and it makes the woodworking that much more fun with the properly sharped tools
This device is supposedly all about consistency, but with screws that have so much holding variance, and the disk wobbling some, i dont see it.
Unlike other some of the other reviewers I didnt have any heat sync issues. This is about a 100$ device, tops.
