As with the first volume, the pace is comfortably brisk and without padding. Ramsey provides real-life examples from his career and from the careers of many names that you will recognize from the worlds of fiction and non-fiction.
His topics range from getting an idea, writing a proposal, getting an agent, researching, writing and editing, and on to keeping the book evergreen after publication. The evergreen process can involve potential updated editions and supporting websites.
He includes a list of writers’ associations that one can join to be helped by peers in several different genres. He offers advice on the passive voice, avoiding clichés, and even on modifying clichés in novel and interesting ways.
Included are instructions on using the Flesh Reading Score and Flesch-Kincade Grade-Level rating available in Word and other authoring software. These scores will help you be confident that your audience — middle-school, high school, adult, expert, or other target — will find comfortable reading in your work.
If you are ready to write, this volume will set you in the right direction and guide you along the way.
