Mr Crane takes pride in having written over forty books. He should. Most people cannot write even one. The problem is that he cannot write one cohesive well told story but rather throws together action sequences that he calls “books” and hopefully after reading ten or twenty, you might get a hint of the complete story. This “episode” is no different. Mira is not clearly delineated, Carson is an enigma and Heidi is the pivot point for a “tease” into a future “episode”. I do not have a short attention span, nor do I like being led on by the continually prolonged promise of the withheld ending to a story. Almost thirty so called books and still he has not concluded the Sienna Nealon story. I will not allow him to drag me into another never ending grab for my wallet: I’d rather take the cost of two or even three of his books and read a complete novel by an author who knows how to write one.

Robert J. Crane has created a new interesting world in the Mira Brand series. This book in particular opens up many of the contexts and backstories I believe this story line will build on. Key in point, what is so important about the Brand family? What is Mira's circumstances? How can she cross worlds, and who else can do it? All of those key points are answered and built up in book 1. I believe the development that Mr. Crane has painstakingly built into this book will pay dividends in books to come. Overall, taking this book with the fact it is the first in a series, and MUST have buildup in which to build from, I found this book very enjoyable. If you enjoy books about treasure hunting, young ladies who feel they have to prove themselves, and a rich, detail filled story I think you will enjoy this book. Give it a try!

An interesting and enjoyable book. Probably not the deepest thing that you’ll read, but for what it is, it’s really well done.
I don’t know if the book is intended for young adults, but I didn’t see anything objectionable. Take that with a grain of salt, though, as I’m hard to offend :)

This book gets 5 stars! It is a great story.
This is a story of mystery and adventures. Mira can go to alien worlds, ancient earth, and to fairy tale worlds where things of myth and legends are real. On her adventures she meets two friends who help her along the way. They go after ancient artifacts and war with what was once thought to be make believe characters from fairy tales.

Mira Brand is just unlikeable. I am taking the VERY rare option (for me) of tossing this book and the entire series. I have read other Crane books and enjoyed them, but he has created a pretty unpleasant character this time.

It was work to get through this one fir me. I couldn’t “see” the things he was describing underground very well. Magic spells and Orcs also lost it’s appeal.

This story is very different and exciting to read! Robert Crane is an amazing storyteller, his world building is excellent, and his characters are so well developed! I am really looking forward to reading more of the adventures to come!

But I'm so happy when he does! Even though I call him some bad names when he does bad things to the characters that I love...Another fun series with a strong, smart mouth female character. I didn't like her much to start with but didn't take long for her to grow on me. I can't wait to see what else this crew gets into.

But it felt like it should have been more

This book takes you straight into the action. The heroine has to collect three McGuffins, and she has the first within a few pages. But it felt like it should have been more. Why was she doing it? Who is she? While it is a mystery for the reader, the heroine knows full well, and that is odd because the book is written from her perspective. If the reader is inside her head, we should know that too. I am not sure if it is a consequence of that or not, but I just never really engaged with her.

Another excellent series

I don't know how he does it. The number of books Robert Crane publishes is astounding and you would be forgiven for expecting them to be a bit pants. Somehow he keeps coming up with new ideas, new characters, new worlds and still finds time to tweet suitably comic and sarcastic messages on Twitter. Looking forward to reading the next Mira Brand story, and the next Sienna, the next southern watch and the next sanctuary.

Enjoyed this one. Devoured it in under a day. Starting the next right after this review which would have been five star but for the perpetuation of hence why. Why should never follow hence. It is redundant. It is like tits on a nun, it serves no purpose.

After a slow start the plot started to take place .Excellent characterization with plenty of heroes and villains .Previously i had read a number of books in the Girl In The Box series but it went on for too long .As a result of reading this book ,I have downloaded the next two in the series .Needless to say I am a big fan of Robert J.Crane .

Was waiting to read Remember from the Out of the Box series so thought I'd try and read another story with a female protagonist. Mira did not disappoint. Slow to start off with to familiarise with the concepts but was hooked after and could not put the book down. Completed the book in less than a day! Going to go on a Mira binge now. An exciting new world for me to explore.
