A loving ode to a universal genre of film. An entire subculture of end-of-the-world themes was spawned from films like The Road Warrior, Escape From New York, and The Terminator. While those films are still being emulated today, film makers all around the world continue to produce radically unique films with startling perspectives of humanity facing the end of all things. This book offers pointers and a frame of reference on how the characters behaved when their worlds were on the brink of desolation. It covers the genre's biggest blockbusters like The Hunger Games, I Am Legend, Oblivion, and World War Z, while devoting equal time and attention to smaller, more obscure films that really deserve to be discovered. Containing over 800 movie reviews, 60 exclusive interviews with filmmakers and actors who've made films in the genre, and a vast subgenre index, World Gone Wild is a chronicle of humanity's struggles through nuclear war, global natural disasters, and the zombie apocalypse in film.

Are you like me and love movies that deal with the post-apocalypse or any film that deals with the impending doom of a post-nuke future? Then you are going to love author David J. Moore's comprehensive, large 435-page book that lists all these films in alphabetical order and has interviews with the people who made them. What I like about this book, besides the rare full color photos, posters, VHS and DVD covers that fill this book up (not a black & white photo to be found on any of the pages), is that there are films within these pages that I never heard of and I consider myself a connoisseur of this genre of film (I review dozens of them on this site, my favorite being the Italian ones). It is apparent David J. Moore is an expert in this genre and fills the pages with information and interviews that you have never read before and you actually learn something about why this genre of film is so popular (but not as popular as it should be, in my opinion.). Mr. Moore had a terrific turnout for his book signing in Burbank, California on the book's debut and he sold every copy (and had some damn good guests that showed up to support him, including Steve Barkett, the director/actor of one of my favorite U.S. post-apocalyptic films, THE AFTERMATH - 1978 and he even has an interview in the book), This is bound to go out of print very fast (I don't know if Moore has a deal with Schiffer Publishing Ltd. for a second printing), so pony-up the hardcover book's $34.99 price (even less if you are an Amazon Prime member) and be prepared to spend a few days learning about this particular sub-genre of the science fiction film. The book is as up to date as it can be, covering films up to the year 2013, so drop what you are doing, log on to your computer and order this excellent tome of films that describe what mankind could be like if nuclear war, disease, nature gone amok, germ warfare or any other disaster turns our planet into one where only the strongest survive. Essential reading for fans of these kind of films and very well written. I tip my hat to David J. Moore.

Hard cover book full of 70s, 80s, 90s & beyond apocalyptic movies. Lengthy reviews (average several paragraphs each with a rating) and interviews with filmmakers and actors interspersed. Like with all good review books, you will learn something and check out a title (or many) that you never knew about or always wanted to see. I did and have no idea how I've managed this long without seeing "Battle Truck." Worthy of your time and collection. You dig "The Road Warrior", "Terminator", etc. and countless rip offs & homages (special thanks to Italy)? This book is for you.

EOTW genre has been my favorite of all genres since my young teens or might I say the days of The Road Warrior and Night Of The Comet!

I previously searched amazon for an awesome movie called World Gone Wild hoping it would be on dvd with no luck and came across this book!

Purchased just after thanksgiving and arrived at my door yesterday, I excitedly flipped through the pages and laughed at the amount of films in this book I have watched over the years already and the many more I never knew existed!

I now have a guide to those I've never seen or all together forgot and a means (Internet) of finding them by name!

Many thanks to the author for taking the time and putting this book together for all of us EOTW fans out there!

Also within the first 5 or so minutes of reading through the book, I believe I have come across a film I know I've seen as a youngster but have never seen since about 30 years ago. I knew what it was about but not its name lol thanks to this book I believe that movie is Day Of The Animals! I have located it on YouTube and I will be watching it the next chance I get to see if it actually is the movie in question!

Thank you but please bring out an updated edition(s) in the years to come as I have watched EOTW films that are not in this book either because they came out after book was published or still coming out today and in the future!

Wow! Hardback library quality binding and a great guide to after, and in some cases during, world apocalypse The book is very well laid out in alphabetical order with comments and reviews on hundreds of films. The author has even been able to include interviews with some of the actors and filmmakers themselves. Loaded with photos and posters, this is one of the best books I've had the pleasure of reading and also using it for reference on the films themselves. Mr Moore has done an excellent job here and I'd like to see this book get a literary award for excellence. Even as avid a film goer and collector that I am, I've run across films in here I've never even heard of and am tracking them down to add to my 600 plus DVD and 100 plus VHS collection. I am also tracking down those posters for some of these movies I want to add them to my 100 plus poster collection. So, with all the film and posters I have, to run across something new is a wonderous find. Thank you Mr. Moore. Please keep putting out books like this, I wish to purchase more.

I agree with all the five star reviews here. This book is made with the best hard bound cover, sharp clear typesetting with clear color photos. The three collum style layout makes the text easy to read and most important; I didn't know there were so many post-apoclyptic movie, so the book is a fun memory of the movies I've seen and an education on the movies I haven't.

It was great to see TV episodes, like Outer Limits that were on the subject to be listed and described in the book. The interviews with people that were actually involved in making some of the movies was a real bonus. With its 430 large sized pages loaded with highly researched information, this book will never be dublicated. Congratulations to the author and the large team that it must have taken to get this project completed and printed up in top quality.

Nice book, best thing is the chats with the film makers. Binding is a little high school text book, but solid. Many illustrations. There are a few entries that seem out of place, but nothing serious. Lots of photos. Recommended.

This book is an amazing encyclopaedia of the genre. With movies that you have forgotten and others that you have never heard of. Some great interviews with people involved on the variety of films featured. While I may disagree with some of the authors assessments, they have all come researched opinions and I can cope with someone not liking some of my favourites. Since receiving this book a couple of weeks ago I have revisited films I haven’t seen in years (Miracle Mile, The quiet earth, mad max 2) and even discovered some I never knew about (battletruck, last night, Cherry 2000). I consider this book an essential purchase for anyone planning to survive the apocalypse.

I give it 4 stars for being an unique book. I wanted to give it 5, but i won't for some reasons. First, the author's love for the genre made him research for years, yet he seems to dislike many of the movies that were rip offs but so fun to watch, praising big blockbusters that in my humble opinion are generally worse than those rip offs and low budget films. Strange. Second, i can't forgive him for writing Escape From New York/L.A. main character's name wrong, Plisskin instead of Plissken. So much love and importance for EFNY, yet he can't write the character's name right. Third, i think the author should've made a brief description of the films he was presenting instead of giving too much of his personal opinion about them sometimes. To be fair, i have read just about 30% of it, but it was enough.Only fans of the genre will buy this book, so they don't need someone to tell them if a movie is cheesy, good, bad, rip off, whatever. I guess they know that already. In the end, it's a great book to add to your collection if you're a movie buff and a post apocalyptic nerd like me.

If you’re a fan of post apocalyptic,or indeed sci fi movies of any kind, this book is an essential addition to your shelves
Apart from concise and accurate reviews of these movies, there are also interviews with people such as Neil amarshall, vernon Wells ,Paul WS Anderson, and Steve de jarnatt
There’s hundreds of colour photographs and Movie posters ,and whole package comes in a sturdy hard bound volume that you’ll b3 returning to again and again
And unlike more ‘snobbish ‘ books ,this one appreciates the movies that I’m actually a super fan of- Doomsday,Waterworld, and Split Second

This a tome and worth reading every word of it for fans of apocalyptical cinema. It is as in-depth as it could possibly be even to the point of the author recalling TV movies from the 70's that have never seen light of day since. The interviews are a welcome break in the reviews. It's printed on good quality paper showing colours of covers and photos in the best light, The hard back cover protects the book well. Worth £20 and a prime position on any Sci-Fi film collector's coffee table.
