It's been well over 8 years since I last played World of Warcraft.

I enjoyed Cataclysm so much! The raids were fantastic and there was always so much grinding I could do, which I loved doing.

I loved having the physical copy of the game. Well worth the money back then.

The Critics Are Right

I came back to WoW this summer, I picked up Cata on sale and began playing through it to get myself ready for MoP. Hopefully MoP will take all the criticisms that have been put out there about this expansion to heart. To me, it feels as if they took every thing wrong with vanilla (boring quests, needless grinding, tons of random number generation pain) and put it with a watered down Wotlk veneer.

I loved Wrath, I thought it really took the game into a good direction. And Cata (having only played during the final patches) almost turned it on it's head. My biggest complaints are the lackluster quests and rehashed "new" battlegrounds, phasing bugs that are still present years after release and terribly balanced PvP. Many people complain that WoW's become too easy, I think what they mean is it's constantly getting dumbed down.

For instance, most quests are on long chains now. And in certain zones, you get 1 or 2 quests at a time (even though your quest log can still hold 25) in the entire zone, and must complete those before you get any more. This whole process feels like you're being led by the nose (instead of playing an open world online game), and for that experience (one I avoid like the plague) I could pop in any console rpg from the 90's.

What I think also needs to be mentioned is the "new" battlegrounds (pvp areas) are just 2 old battlegrounds but on different maps. In my opinion, the new maps are smaller, simpler, and less fun than their classic versions. The other downside to this, if you dislike either (or both) of the game types, well too bad, now you have twice as much of a chance to participate in them.

My Advice? I still enjoy WoW, and Cata wasn't all bad. Buy it cheap and level through it to get to MoP (which hopefully is an improvement).

Cool Expansion

I'm surprised I never wrote a review for this.

Well, short and simple.

I'm a vanilla player, with full tier 0.5 feralheart xmog. I also have the original Zulian Tiger. This is Commack from Twisting Nether.

Cata was a decent expansion but nothing beats Vanilla and BC. I stopped playing a few patches into MOP because I moved back to NY and my computer is in FL in storage until I can get down there and move the rest of my stuff up.

WoW overall is a cool game, but you really need to put a lot of dedication into it to have what I have including gold cap which I think now is 1 gold under a million per character.

Blizzard support is awful. If you have a problem, you're out of luck.

I've been playing almost since launch, faithfully paying my money and buying the expansions, even as the real life friends I used to play with stopped playing. Even as most of the really good in-game friends I met and used to play with quit playing. The game has felt more and more dumbed down (the quests in Cataclysm walk you through themselves as if you were playing a tutorial the whole way: you don't even have to read them, your map shows you exactly where to go with a yellow marker and the mobs you need light up or the item you need sparkles) and yet elitist (I understand expecting people to not be completely inept, but refusing to consider taking anyone to an instance/dungeon who hasn't either been through it all before or watched multiple youtube videos about every step of the instance...sort of takes the fun out of going in and messing around and figuring things out, like...you know, it was a game or something...).

I've been increasingly frustrated and bored for a long time, but I was willing to believe it was just me, (and all the people I know who quit long before me) and not really hold it against the game. Plenty of people are still playing, so clearly Blizz has still got something going in their favor. I've quit a couple of times but always been talked in to coming back by the few, and now the only friend I have who still plays.

And then...Blizzard stole my account. Their emails about it were incredibly cold and unhelpful, including the first one in response to my initial battlenet ticket that was just asking what had happened, since I had not yet found the email they'd sent explaining I was being banned for "using cheats." All they would say was that they've "looked into it and the account action will not be reversed" and then link the EULA, which I read again and again to make sure I hadn't broken some new rule about not logging in on a Tuesday or something.

I have never used a cheat, hack or anything of that nature. I have never bought or sold gold or bought or sold leveling services. I use five very basic mods, all through curse, that I've been using since Burning Crusade. I'm such a goody-two-shoes I would NEVER have considered using a bot or a hack, since back in vanilla WoW when I first heard about them and heard they would get you banned. I kept waiting for someone from Blizz to finally write back and explain it was a weird joke. Instead, they send a second message that gave me no more information than the first one did, except that it ended with "since we've had multiple people look over your request, we won't answer another one."

Seriously, I know someone who was guilty would probably be denying it as strongly as someone who's innocent, but that's it? I've been playing and paying since a few months after the first game came out and all I warrant is two very cold form emails, the second of which ends with "don't bother trying to contact us again?"

I use their authenticator, I keep my pw secure and only play on the two computers I own and that I alone have access to; I don't even see how this can be the result of someone hacking me and even if it is, Blizzard couldn't have been clearer about the fact that they don't care. I ran virus scan on both of my computers (which I do weekly anyway) and both came up clean. I think this is just a straight-up mistake on their end, but they're sticking to it and won't even talk about it, so my WoW days are over. Like I said above though, the game was boring me, so I'm really only upset about the two months they're stealing of the three months I pay in advance every cycle and the injustice of the accusation. (And I'm really glad I didn't pre-order MoP a few days ago when I was weighing my frustration with the game against the time I spend playing with the one person I know who still plays.)

I wouldn't trust them with my money anymore. I already went to my battlenet account and erased my credit card info and I'm going to be keeping an eye on the balance to make sure they don't try billing me again in a couple of months. This was done in really bad faith. I won't be playing any more Blizzard games and I certainly won't be recommending them to anyone.

The next to the latest expansion pack for the World of Warcraft gaming franchise. Not much I can say about it other than to say that it adds more areas but the gameplay remains the same. I just wish that Blizzard would spend some of the MILLIONS of dollars they make off monthly subscriptions...let's see,( 8,000,000 paying subscribers at $15 a piece per month, comes out to $120,000,000 per month) to upgrade the graphics of the game to be less cartoonish and more REALISTIC! I think subscribers would be VERY happy with such an upgrade.
