Product Description
Product Description
An ancient evil lies dormant within Deepholm, the domain of earth in the Elemental Plane. Hidden away in a secluded sanctuary, the corrupted Dragon Aspect Deathwing has waited, recovering from the wounds of his last battle against Azeroth and biding his time until he can reforge the world in molten fire. Soon, Deathwing the Destroyer will return to Azeroth, and his eruption from Deepholm will sunder the world, leaving a festering wound across the continents. As the Horde and Alliance race to the epicenter of the cataclysm, the kingdoms of Azeroth will witness seismic shifts in power, the kindling of a war of the elements, and the emergence of unlikely heroes who will rise up to protect their scarred and broken world from utter devastation.

Cataclysm essentially evolved the original game to be more socially specific and made the game world much more dynamic through "phasing" (for those unaware, phasing is when the game world changes based on your personal characters development through quests, objectives met, etc.). The graphical improvements to the game are beautiful and the "old world" of Azeroth feels new and fresh, at least to me. The two new races, Worgen and Goblin, are both fun characters to play from level 1, and max level characters certainly weren't left out either, with a very large amount of near endgame content to play through. This is by far the most balanced gaming design I've seen from Blizz.
Gameplay character balance is still skewed to some degree and I am sure we will see changes made through patches to correct some classes that overly benefited from the changes, but level 80+ content was flawless for me. I know some had problems with phasing or perhaps not understanding how phasing actually works so there was some complaining in the game (and off) about glitches and bugs, but come on, let's be honest here, this was probably the best launch for Blizzard EVER. I had the least problems installing and playing through this expansion than any other.
As far as the Collector's Edition is concerned, it's on par with every other expansion's CE. The concept art and execution in the book are brilliant, and the music can be serene and severe. It also comes with an in-game non-combat cosmetic pet aptly called Lil' Deathwing. He's not the cutest pixels on the screen but he's quintessentially WoW. Oh, you also get a free pass to try Starcraft 2 for those interested as well.
I am always pleased with Amazon. Customer service is always willing to help with issues and I typically get things exactly when I'm supposed to. This time was the exception, but Amazon made up for it. Thank you for that Amazon! With Blizzard's record setting release shipping glitches were bound to happen. But again, Amazon was very helpful and responsive to my shipping issue.
Overall, If you like immersive fantasy worlds that actually change as you make things happen, you'll really enjoy this game. Heck, I know two people who just started playing this over console games and love it. Give the trial a try and see what you think. Maybe I'll see you in game :)
If not, this is a great game, great expansion, and great collector's pack.
Everything included is top-notch, from the packaging to the included items. The mouse pad is a really nice quality, the art book is gorgeous and the cards and DVD and soundtrack are great too. And you don't have to use the discs to actually install anything, just use the activation code on your Battle.net account and the expansion will be activated without having to insert the discs or install anything, unless you are a new player or installing it on a new computer.
Whether the included items and pet in the collector's edition is worth paying twice as much as the regular edition of the expansion is up to the individual. Some people will see it as a waste of money, others will appreciate the extras or are extreme collectors and will have to have the new companion pet. Either way, you can't go wrong with the expansion.
About the expansion content itself, I am now level 85 (the new max level) and am working my way through the daily quests, reputations, dungeons, etc. I've done all of the quests in the 80 - 85 zones and they are all great. I've also started an alt to see the newly redone old-world content, and it is all fantastic. The game feels much more epic and interactive now. The world actually changes in places due to your actions, and you are thrust into the heat of battle from level 1, rather than just killing 10 boars for no apparent reason other than someone asked you to. There are cutscenes sprinkled throughout the levels to push the story forward in a more dramatic way, and the questing is much more guided so that you don't get lost and aimlessly wander around looking for the next quest-giver.
I'm having a blast so far and am looking forward to more content added in future patches and to the next expansion.
Basically if you love art and especially blizzards art this is worth it. Also, the in-game pet is neat.
In Game: I've played since 6 months pre-wrath and I ended wrath as a lock in almost full pve 277. LOVE the game, the new areas are simply amazing. There seem to be less bugs this time than with the wrath xpac. I've completed every pve zone except hyjal in cataclysm and done all the new dungeons. Finally got my iLevel up high enough last night to farm some heroics tonight-I've heard they are quite a large step up from regulars which really force you to be aware and actually use CC...perhaps this means that it will require some measure of skill again and not just any 12 year old with a character daddy gave him can manage it. Here's to hoping!
GM in game assistance is really the only place that I could ever complain about. Having 12-13 million accts you'd think they could afford more staffing to address things within 24 hours or at least give a spam mail saying we're looking into your ticket and should be replied to soon, when recieved, you're XXth in line to be replied to by a GM.
