Now, once again I was bothered by problems with editing and formatting, especially. But I weighed all factors in the balance, and honestly, the story itself is too compelling and complex to downgrade because of technicalities. I give it full stars. If you are a lover of space battles, elves in woods, and dimension-jumping warriors, this story has it all!
What I liked: Mr. Rutherford’s characters continue to grow and spring surprises on me. The reemergence of the dragons was very cool, and I enjoyed the evolution of the relationship between Katheryne and Derren and between Krista and Perri. This story has all the elements - love, romance, fantasy, dragons, elves, science fiction, and a universe in crisis - and it was an excellent continuation of the series!
What I didn’t like: The story seemed to be heading toward an epic battle with Tenybris, but we never quite got there. There was plenty of action, but it wasn’t the action I expected. The ending to this book came a little abruptly, but at least I have something to look forward to when I get the epic battle!
Overall impression: Like the two previous books, Worlds of the Never doesn’t disappoint. It delivers the action and solid storyline I’ve come to expect from Colin Rutherford. I will be waiting for the next book in the series to make its debut! Well done, Mr. Rutherford!!
My rating: 5 Stars!!
If you start the series with this book, be sure and go back to the beginning with Origins of the Never. Your next stop should be Souls of the Never.
There’s a lot more world building, and we’re introduced to a new race from the planet Zhibalba. All of their names begin with the letter ‘Z’, which I found quite unique. They’re a reptilian race and I really liked their determination to continue in the face of adversity. I thought they were believable and well-written.
As with all conflicts and war, people die, and so Kat faces the loss of another friend. This part made me cry, as the character was one of my favorites, though she did change in this book.
What I didn’t like: Parts of the story were just to saccharine for me, too lovey-dovey and cutesy. I know it’s a YA book, but my teeth still hurt.
All-in-all, a well-written tale with very believable characters. I’ve already begun the last book. All the characters are rushing toward a final confrontation, which I hope, will be a very dramatic conclusion. I’ve been told by CJ, I’ll be weeping during this one too.
If you love sci-fi with epic world-building and alternate universe’s, you’ll enjoy this series. I give it 4 dragons.
CJ Rutherford has created a powerhouse with this series. You’ll be taken into impossible worlds, entwined in fairy magic, dragons, beast, and the power of other universes.
Watch yourself; you may go mad when you are pulled in the mind of Rutherford and the world of Never. His characters come to life drawing you further into its depths. You’re intertwined into the threads of time, space, and reptilian creatures. The overall view of this book is of adventure, action, and suspense. Well written and imaginative. Yes, this book has it all.
