Born to a 13 year old mother, Worm starts out in many foster homes before his mother turns 18 years old and finally gets custody of him. Abused by the people that should be taking care of him, Worm goes through life with a series of low life men his mother brings home until she finally marries one of the worst.
The story reads very true to life and because of that is difficult to read sometimes. NOTE: There is language, abusive situations, and violence in this book. I would definitely not recommend for younger readers.
Well written and compelling, I just wish "Worm 2 - Breakdown" and "Worm 3 - Break Even" were already published. They are mentioned by the author at the end of this novella. I want to know what happens to Worm.
If I had one criticism it's that I didn't really warm to the central character as much as I'd have liked. He is complex and interesting and has been through a lot. Still, for some reason, I wasn't fully rooting for him. But the story does very ably dramatise what people are capable of when they are pushed too far. And I'd certainly like to read more about Worm and find out what happens to him.
