I originally received an advanced copy of this anthology, but since that copy was missing the story by one of my newly minted favorite authors, Kilby Blades, I Instead downloaded the book through KU so that I wouldn't miss her inclusion. The Worst Valentines' Day Ever was a diverse set of short stories/novellas covering a number of romance sub-genres. Although I skipped a couple of the stories with PNR elements, it was worth picking up for all of those that I did read. Below are a sampling of my top favorites from the collection.
PERFECT ODDS by LG O'Connor-
This was my favorite from the entire anthology. I loved it. It had an original setting to not one, but two friends-to-lovers romances. One of them (I believe) being a prequel to a potentially quirky and fun new rom-com series with some real poignancy.
RIGHT HAND MAN by Kilby Blades-
I picked up the anthology for this author and she didn't disappoint. Right Hand Man was a sweetly romantic tale with a highly capable heroine. I only wish that we had more time and dialogue with Cal.
CHASING THE NIGHT by Deb Lee-
Chasing the Night was a sweet, fun, and tender romance with a surprising reveal in the first few moments. I loved it. This one had a few noticeable grammatical errors, but I won't hold it against it.
After reading this story, I'm excited to read this author's debut full-length romance.
While there was one story I didn't really care for, it doesn't retract from all those that I did. Overall, a collection worth reading for the number of exceptional stories that were included.
Sweet story about two people, Bach and Liv, with a horrific shared history on a Valentine’s day 5 years ago who formed a company that bets on love and 2nd chances on that very day. Their latest target is Tanya and Tate, and the game will hopefully find love for all of them.
When Rachel’s long term boyfriend, Marley, proposes and tells her he is about to leave on a humanitarian mission for 6 months, she doesn’t share that she just discovered she was pregnant. Unforeseeable circumstances keep them apart until the night before an unexpected delivery.
Bubba is a shifter wolf who is determined to have Vanessa as his mate. His pursuit appears to finally work at the end of her sister’s wedding.
Orrie is looking forward to spending an in person Valentines day with Dalton, who is babysitting his nephews. Through the babysitting event, the couple sweetly reconnects.
When Rosiland’s producer demands she plays matchmaker on her TV show to boost ratings, his attempt to create drama by having her responsible for matching her ex, leads her to find the greatest love...love of self.
Carter and Sarah are two people that lost their spouses, who find their second chance at love.
Diego and Rosie are artists, whose passion for their art leads to an unusual partnership and love
When Anne’s ex-husband shows with their injured dog, she puts both her medical license and her heart on the line
When Grace’s ex serves her its papers seeking full custody, she is pushed over the edge. An expected joyride and conversation with Logan, the man whose car she borrowed seems to be fate.
