I had a difficult time with the subject matter of this book. Even though you want family members to be happy, big differences in age (like 10 - 20 years) just rubs me the wrong way. Now, having said that, this book ended up being very enjoyable. Lou (45ish) and Jake (26) have an 18 year age difference between the two of them, the thing that complicates this attraction is Jake is one of Lou's sons best friends. Jake has been attracted to Lou since he was seventeen, he's now 26 and is acting upon his feelings when he runs into Lou in a pub. Although this is not a book I would normally read, I was asked to read it for review, so I put aside my reservations with the subject matter and forged it. What I found was a pretty good book, well written, engaging and has a few surprises thrown in for good measure. The relationship between the two lead characters is nothing short of complicated, but when the author dives deeper into Lou's divorce from her husband along with other challenges that come up, it develops into a very complicated but romantic read. I will say though, with society today, it seems way more accepting for a man/woman huge age difference than a woman/man age difference, which is a bunch of bologna. This book helps bridge that gap with likeable characters and a good storyline. Well worth the read.
