I'm bad with names and it's been a while since I've done a Rough Riders series re-read, so it took me a moment to remember where Justin fit in (for the other memory-challenged, he's Jack Donahue's brother, and former boyfriend, now brother-in-law, to Keely McKay Donahue). Justin was a bit of jerk at times, so I was happy to see that he's grown up quite a bit (though he still has some issues to deal with), and I loved how the author tied Justin's immaturity as a young man into the current storyline. I also loved how well thought out Callie's background was: she might be young in age, but she's had loads of responsibility for years, she's used to taking care of herself and she has a clear, well-thought out plan in place for her life. In other words, she's far more mature than Justin was at the same age, something that takes him a while to accept.
I'm not normally a fan of one character keeping a secret from the other for the majority of the story (I'm usually, "Just TALK to each other, already!"), but it made so much sense for the character here, I not only didn't mind, I was so engrossed in the story I didn't even think about it until I was writing this review. That's how good of a storyteller this author is.
Hot cowboy and a sassy, sexy cowgirl plus heat, humor and a sweet HEA equals an engaging addition to two of my favorite series by one of my favorite authors. 5+ stars
It was nice seeing a couple of beloved characters (Keely and Jack) and getting to know Justin and Callie. Their May/December romance is a perfect addition to the Rough Riders/Blacktop Cowboys series. Thanks Lorelei. You did it again!
Callie works two jobs in order to save money to go to school and be a licensed cosmetologist. She isn't looking for a relationship but she won't say no to some fun with the the new instructor at the rodeo school where she works, Justin.
Justin meet Callie at her second job, a bar where she serves drinks and danced and he can't take his eyes off her and the chemistry is mutual but Justin is sure that Callie is older than she is but when he find out how young she is he tell her they can't have a fling since he's 18 years older than her and he's afraid of what people will say.
I loved reading about Callie and Justin, they were friends before becoming lovers and I loved reading how they got yo know one another.
As always the sex scenes are super hot but I found myself laughing like crazy at some scenes and in tears at others.
Wound Tight was an amazing novella and I really loved reading it!
I didn’t expect for nearing 40 year old Justin Donahue, retired bull riding sensation, to be a little down on life and feeling somewhat sorry for himself despite having a family who loves him, the ability to take any job he wants with ease, and enough money to be more than comfortable. I certainly didn’t expect to find Calliope “Callie” Morgan who at age 22 had lived a tough life, one that would have brought most people down, yet made her want to work as hard as she needed to in order to make something more of herself and did it without complaint and honestly with a pretty damn sunny attitude. And while I did know they would be together, I was pleasantly surprised at the way they got there and the internal conflict and soul searching that came to pass. I loved every minute of this fast and furious romance, the verbal sparring, the immediate lust, the friendship they built, and the moment Justin realized he was in love (seriously that moment melted my heart for numerous reasons), but most of all I loved that this couple proved that age is only a number. Being older doesn’t always make you wiser, but it does give you the wisdom to make you look at your life and see the big picture despite the baggage of your past.
Cameo appearances by Jack and Keeley and well as Cres and Breck made my day and this couple stole my heart. Smart, funny, sassy, surprising, and sexy along with a lot of love, Wound Tight was a joy to read!
