I started Chivalry with the intent of writing a romance novel, but I needed to add the struggle for women in 1969 to break into horse racing. The result of adding that plot line (not one you'd find in your average romance novel) landed it in the "historical fiction" category. Since then, I decided to stay there and include some romance in the stories. I wanted more for my books than the usual romance plot, and I think I've established that.
I have a small fan group now, but they are loyal and anxious to read whatever comes next in the series. I'm working feverishly to get the other books out as soon as I can for them! I'll be selling the set as a boxed set once I get to three, and then I'll add the fourth, and so forth.
Here's the sequence -
Book one: "Chivalry" - for sale on Amazon
Book two: "Wounds into Wisdom" - for sale on Amazon
Book three: "Turn of the Tide" - a continuation of Candy's saga. Will she ever get a break? I related to Candy on many ways and the author's voice in "Wounds" and "Tide" is hers and mine at the same time. It was very easy to write about Candy since so much of her personality comes from mine. Big difference: She's a morning person and I am SO not.
Book four: "How (not) to Grieve" - a prequel to Chivalry, the story of Julia, Rachel's mother, and how she became a trainer as a single mom in the 50s and 60s. This one is gut wrenching at times, so bring the kleenex. But, it's not all sad - you'll also laugh. It has a paranormal twist as well. You'll see...it's good. I can't wait to share it!
Book Five: "Clear Blue Sky" - Peggy, a friend of Rachel's from "Chivalry," is back and working at Belmont as a groom for her father. She has to share the track with Erick, her ex-boyfriend, and Rachel, her ex-friend who is now married to Erick. Drama!
Book Six: "Prophetic" - Don's story. Where has he been all this time? Don is Candy's brother. I have good news and bad news. ;)
Book Seven: Billy needs a book too and I'm still trying to come up with something for him. I'm thinking a little growing up and finding love would be nice.
