Number 2! I thought the character interviews were an awesome idea at the end of every novella that made a nice touch and reminded me of some of J.R. Ward's books where she would do an interview with some of the characters and it made the stories much more real and relatable. Now while I don't get to read many ghost stories these days I can't speak to the rest of the genre but I think this is one of the most well done collections I have had the pleasure to read in quite a while. So if you are looking for a deliciously creepy, history buff kind of read then this is definitely the book for you!

The Curse of the Carter Women is the final and best installment of The Wraith of Carter’s Mill. If read chronologically, this fourth novel should come first. I read all four novels in order to write this review and to find out what happened to the Carter women, and by far, I enjoyed the “older” segments best. The author does a fantastic job recreating the history of this family’s self-inflicted tragedy.
The twining of the modern and past Carter family was intriguing. Unraveling the mystery of the ubiquitous creature harassing the current Carter seer, Shyanne, will take the reader on an adventure through time. I would have loved to see more of that history, an expansion of the epilogue included in the fourth novel. The epilogue felt a bit rushed, and since the historical parts were my favorite, I’d have liked to see the full history, the struggles (both physical and emotional) of the victims of Zeb’s and Martha’s victims.
My one complaint was the shifting POV. I typically enjoy seeing the plot unfold from numerous perspectives; however, I like a more organized style. The POV often changed randomly mid-chapter, switching back and forth almost haphazardly. It made the writing feel a bit immature at times.
I received a copy of this novel from the author in exchange for an honest review.
The first one:
Sensitives is about Libby Carter Martin, she had a horrible childhood and there was a dark entity that didn’t help her at all growing up. When her mother dies, her. Her husband and their young daughter return to her childhood home for the funeral, Libby hadn’t talked to her mother in years. What intrigued me the most was how her daughter Shyanne had an imaginary friend, and how she had to go with the family to the family home and that Libby at the time had no clue. I loved how this story played out. How well Libby dealt with it and the fact that she and her brother were still on great terms despite their mother. Even though this is a short story, a novella, this story had some powerful words and made it come together. The writer totally put everything in place and made it ready for the next story.
The second story:
This story takes place a decade later when Shyanne is in her teens, her parents are killed in an accident and Shyanne was living with her Mom’s brother Jack. Ever since Shyanne had an imaginary playmate she could speak to the dead, or listen to the dead. After her parents died she didn’t understand why her parents wouldn’t come and speak to her. So she shut out all the voices. During college someone had witness her using her gifts, and wanted her to help her with a family that was being haunted, she didn’t really want too but the family needed it. I also loved this story, well written, the paranormal was awesome and how the writer wrote this story. Goose bumps
This story is now about the Shyanne who is grown up and living in the family home. Her daughter goes into a coma and she knows it isn’t a medical reason. This chapter is written so amazingly well. You can actually feel it and I well could just picture it, The emotions of a daughter being sick, the strain on a marriage, the dreams and visions that Shyanne is getting, leads her to a place in the woods, and unknown place back in time. How the writer takes up from now to back in time is so good.
The Fourth and final story.
This part of the book takes us back to the beginning, how the curse began. This went back to the beginning of the family, and Shyanne needs to try and lift the wraith that was cursed on her family a century ago. Again this is such an intense story, really brought the whole story around and being able to find how it all started.
I can tell you I loved reading this story. If you like paranormal, spirits and scary things, folklore than this is a good book for you. I also thought the author did well in bringing all the stories together, they all fit and the characters were well developed and I had great understanding how they played out in their roles.
I did receive this book for an honest review.
