As her life goes on LynnMarie is shocked to learn that she will give birth to a son who has Down syndrome. She describes her struggle so honestly as she mourns the idea of her son being a doctor or President. To mother to her son she must overcome depression and realize he's perfect just as he is.
This book is a must-read for mothers and anyone who is raising or helping to raise a child with special needs. It's a quick read and one that you won't soon forget. Here's to hoping LynnMarie continues her story and the second book. I couldn't put this one down!
This book made me laugh.
This book made me cry.
It made me cheer on the author at times and other times I scolded her for having such ridiculous thoughts. But those thoughts, feelings, and stories are all real and raw. Through her words Lynnmarie shares things that most people are afraid of saying out loud. She provides examples of how the past can influence, but certainly not dictate our futures.
The underlying story here is LOVE. Learning to love ourselves and the lives that we have been given. Lynnmarie provides beautiful, inspiring, powerful, sad, silly, and real examples of how she was able to really begin loving who she WAS and who she IS right now in this very MOMENT.
Immediately, I appreciated the complete honesty that LynnMarie used when describing some deeply personal challenges she faced. How refreshing! To have someone finally openly talk about how hard issues like alcoholic parents, preparing for and raising a special needs child and mental health issues like depression truly are, and what it takes to work through them. What an inspiring story for other women dealing with the same types of issues can relate to.
If you're looking for a totally candid read, which will take you on an incredible journey, I highly recommend this book.
"Because seeing a therapist is like dating. The first couple of weeks there’s a lot of wooing and trying to impress. It’s not until a few weeks in that you’re ready to talk about your mother."
“I know how hard it is right now; I’ve been there. But I promise you, if you can find a way to not live in the future, and let go of your fear and live in this moment, you are going to feel more love than you ever imagined!”
There is so much wisdom in this treasure of a memoir, from a woman who has experienced so much! LynnMarie is brutally honest about the hard parts of life, and finds a way to make even the toughest situations funny and poignant. Nothing is glossed over. I laughed, I cried, but most importantly I felt my own struggle in hers. This book is a must-read for anyone who has ever fallen down and gotten back up again and again... so it's a book for everyone!
