Honestly, this book felt all over the place. I can handle plot twists if done well. I can handle characters coming to terms with things and moving from anger to acceptance. But I kind of felt like I was getting whiplash with this book. There were so many surprises/plot twists that it felt like they were being overused, and the story became unbelievable and almost absurd, in my opinion. In addition, Calla's instantaneous emotional changes were equally unrealistic.
I also completely disagreed with the constant statements of how strong Calla is, as well as a number of other undeserved compliments. What I saw was a girl who constantly ran her mouth too much without any way to back it up. When it came to actions to support her words, there were none. She immaturely rants and stomps her foot at Cain when she first comes back but is very quick to give in and sleep with him. She doesn't follow through on her threats (there was one person I really felt she should have had the opportunity to fight back against, but instead she was saved while being beaten up by someone I saw as a weak character, making her seem even more weak). Finally, she assumes she knows what someone is going to ask her and says yes before the person can ask. An intelligent person doesn't usually agree to something before hearing the terms, but for some reason the other characters seem to think she's "bright and observant" for doing this...?Read more ›
None of the characters grabbed me. I didn't connect with any of them. It was difficult getting through. Cain wasn't really a "badass." A true biker/badass/outlaw wouldn't speak with proper grammar. And Calla wouldn't be so wishy washy and whine all the time if she was such a "strong" woman.
I really wanted to like this book based on the blurb but I was disappointed. Too much going on in the story along with so-so characters didn't make this an easy read. A round of good editing and tightening the story might have helped.
Calla and Cain's separation was for the stupidest reason, when as soon as she got back with him the danger he tried to protect her from was on her doorstep and no one cared then. Calla finds out her dad's an assassin, mom used to be one, hubby is a thief, and she doesn't even bat an eye. So obviously she has no morals either. Calla also immediately took Cain back after he put her through misery for six years. And don't even get me started on how she didn't give a crap when she miscarried. I hated this book and all of it's immoral characters.
Unfortunately, there was very little story and even less relationship development. The h runs off on her wedding day after she catches the hero in bed with another woman. She has no contact with him until 6 years later when she wants him to sign divorce papers. He is still in love with her and had purposefully run her off on their wedding night for her own good. He refuses to let her go. He keeps her captive at his club because bad guys are after her. There was very little backstory to their teenage romance and even less after their reunion. After 6 years, it was hi...let's have smex.
What I really disliked: the cheating hero. He was not even pretending to cheat with the OW. His d*** was actually in her when the heroine found them on their wedding night. The hero had also been f*****g the OW in the past six years along with every women in the club. The hero claimed to love the heroine very much yet he did every woman in sight. I had a difficult time thinking of him as a hero. I also disliked the spineless heroine. They were having smex immediately after the reunion.
What I sorta liked: yes, there were some stuff that I liked or this review would have been one star. The author tries to show that the douche bag was still thinking of the heroine while he was banging every women in sight including the OW.Read more ›
What I did really enjoy about this book was the story outside of Cain and Calla. How an MC and the Mafia end up together intrigues me. I mean I know how they work together but they “work” together, and somewhat well from what I gather from this book. As far as what to expect I feel like this is mostly the start of a series, like a build up to what is to come. So when I rate this one I’m at odds because I feel like the author is delivering one story but also setting up for more stories down the road too. For Cain and Calla I give them 3 stars, I think that some things were glossed over with them, like there was a lot unresolved from their past. But the story, all of it’s twists and turns left me guessing and wondering what was going to happen next so for that I give it 4 stars.

I loved the book. A bit too graphic in the violence for me. I might have skimmed those parts. I liked the story line. The main girl was a bit of a cry baby. But...whatever. Read morePublished 1 month ago by Sarah S.
This book was full of secrets, lies, and betrayal. Every page was repetitive and just too much. I wanted to love it but I didn't like the characters all that much. Read morePublished 1 month ago by ReadingforMoms
