This installment is the story of Kate and Wrath. Kate being the bookish botanist of the brilliant thirteen and daughter of disgraced, banished club president, Gus. A young woman striving to overcome the extreme trauma of her youth at the hands of her sadistic father and stepmother after the death of her beloved mother. A woman of quiet strength, determined to make a difference with her all female tribe in the "after" and help rebuild society. And Wrath, the always present MC nomad who has long dreamed of being with Kate. A woman he has loved and cherished from afar, staying only close enough to protect her and keep her from harm as best he could as the world around them exploded and unraveled.
What follows is a story that will fill you with as much unease from its eerie, almost terrifying level of societal destruction, as it does joy over what Kate and Wrath are able to recapture in the midst of chaos. It is a suspense filled, yet surprisingly tender story of second chances. A heart pounding tale of lost love found again in the midst of a heartless, violent, kill or be killed existence. One where Wrath takes extreme measures to guard Kate's heart and keep her soul clean from the immeasurable violence staining their very existence. And Kate steadfastly reminds Wrath of the beauty amongst the destruction.
It is a breathtakingly dark book, and just as she did with Runner and Ellie, here again Mitchell creates characters that are all uniquely vibrant and strong. Once again creating a story world so evocative, you literally feel yourself mimic each and every sigh, gasp, and hitch of breath Kate expresses. You will feel deep in your soul every bit of worry, heartache, and ounce of stress Wrath's knowledge, that in "the after" women are in danger every single day just because they're women, produces. Every word Mitchell painstakingly writes from page to page, chapter to chapter will sear themselves into your soul and have you on the very edge of your seat, cracking at the very seams with agnst over what is happening within.
I loved Mitchell before, but with this series she has quickly become one of my favorite writers, making my very small list of authors I will read as soon as things are published. Wrath and Kate's story, as with Runner and Ellie's will set your soul aflame, waking up even the most hardened hearts among us. You will exist in a state of desperation with every turning page, swallowing a near constant lump in your throat as you wade through scenario after scenario with Kate, Wrath, and all the Nameless Soul and Thirteen folk as they navigate the new world around them. Here, Mitchell raises the stakes adding increased conflict, new twists, and surprising turns that will stun you and leave you begging for more.
The only thing better, is knowing book three will be coming soon. A new installment I will definitely be counting down the minutes for!
Sexy times happen
Violence and blood (its the apocalypse)
Mention if some triggers happening in this fictional world but none happen In the book or to the main couple.
Okay so mm where to start? I never thought I’d enjoy this type of book, but I’ve been proven wrong yet again. Wrath’s badass-ness doesn’t extend to the way he treats Kate, but he protects her dearly. Kate might seem scared of the world but she can honestly protect herself when it comes down to it, she loves and protects fiercely.
There is a fantastic blend of action and suspense in this story that keeps me on the edge of my seat and ready for more.
Kate has fascinated me since book 1, she comes off as shy and meek...but I could see a spark of fire in her. Wrath brings the true Kate out and she is an amazingly strong, brilliant woman who adds so much to their crew.
I think I ran through every emotion in this book..I will even admit to my heart hurting and sheading a tear or two. Evie knows how to write, she is an expert and I bow to her skill. I CANNOT wait for this series to continue, I hate having to wait to find out what happens next and what's in store for everyone.
