Editorial Reviews

It was a beautiful written story that had so much meaning behind it. It deserves so much more than five stars, this story will pull you in from the very beginning right up till the ending. You'll laugh, cry, and do it all over again this book will pull at your heart. ~ Angela, Swoonworthy Books

I LOVED Grace and David so freaking much. I loved them individually as giving, grounded, fantastic human beings, and I loved them together--flirty and tender and scorching hot. Ms. Collins got the perfect relationship formula just right. Then she put my heart through a shredder before somehow healing it, soothing it, and making it overflow with happiness. ~ Shelly, Give Me Books

I fell back in love with the idea of "true love". Grace and David have just that, "true love". Given the battle and nature of their coming together you have no choice but to get lost in the story or in my case the stories within the story. ~ Mayas, Reading by the Book

About the Author

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Melissa Collins has always been a book worm. Studying Literature in college ensured that her nose was always stuck in a book.  She followed her passion for reading to the most logical career choice: English teacher.  Her hope was to share her passion for reading and the escapism of books to her students. Having spent more than a decade in front of a classroom, she can easily say that it's been a dream.

Her passion for writing didn't start until more recently.  When she was home on maternity leave in early 2012, she read her first romance novel and her head filled with the passion, angst and laughter of the characters who she read about it.  It wasn't long before characters of her own took shape in her mind. Their lives took over Melissa's brain and The Love Series was born.

Wow just wow! Words cannot even start to describe the feelings I have after finishing this novel. I feel I cannot do this wonderful yet heartbreaking story justice.

The main themes that are being discussed are ones that have affected most of us in one way or another. I clearly remember the day of 9/11, when the grounds keeper came into our classroom to inform us about the events.

Gracie and David are one of those epic loves that are one of a kind. They’ve been friends from when they were little children and one particular event has solidified that bond even more. Unfortunately, it is because of that event that they are forced to part ways and will not see each other again until years after.

Once they do see each other again, the sparks that were there all those years ago, ignite. The relationship that follows is one that is so heartwarming, you really felt the love splashing from the pages.

Now we know David is a firefighter and that that is an occupation that comes with hazards. Around the period of the commemoration of 9/11 tragedy strikes again and what’ll happen next will tug on your heartstrings and will make you grab a big box of tissues.

Man.... I’m still crying after just finishing! I urge you to take your time and savor this story and share it with the people around you. It is one of those that’ll learn you some major life lessons.

Memories are precious but they are not all there is to life. Live your life and treat the people around you like you want to be treated. Seize the day and live your life to the fullest!

Two songs I found complimented the story:
How Long Will I Love You by Ellie Goulding
I Want You To Want Me by Cheap Trick

My Review:
Wow...Melissa Collins definitely knows how to write an angst-filled, emotional book, and this one takes all that to the extreme. The characters and the story have a lot of that, but then you overlay the story onto the New York City Fire Department and the emotions left from 9/11 and this book definitely packs a powerful punch. Overall, it's a beautiful story.

I love David and Grace's backstory from when they were kids and the pure unlikelihood that they'd ever see one another again. I love stories that push the boundaries of fate. I liked the two of them and that deep connection that they still feel which makes the fast (fast in that they were in deep really quickly...the actual romance takes place over a good chunk of time) love story somewhat more believable.

I loved the touches of firefighters in NYC and the fact that Grace has always read firefighter themed romances. (That made me giggle.) I liked the friendships in the book...Jade with her take-no-crap straight-forwardness and Ian with his playboy ways. It will be interesting to see if the author decides to take them out for their own book and HEA. My heart twisted and tore for Ian at the end of this one.

This book is divided into two parts and once the second part began, I was completely and totally riveted. I loved that the author didn't take the easy route with the story. Instead she tore and ripped at Grace and David which made their love seem even more real and resilient in the end. I loved that she had the courage to do that. That part of the book was AMAZING and rated an A+ in my book.

I do have one little problem with the story though...the characters' reaction to conflict or really any emotion besides pure happiness seemed WAY over the top. Every single time.

It took me a couple of days to write this review because this book left me raw and I honestly couldn't describe how I was feeling about it! I knew I LOVED it, but putting words into complete sentences was a challenge. I made me feel EVERYTHING!!

Grace and David are exceptional characters that you can't help but fall in love with and you're rooting for their love to survive!

Their story is beautiful and heartbreaking in equal measure. It had me crying and screaming at my kindle hoping that everything would work out how I wanted it to and praying that their love was strong enough to make it!

Melissa creates a story that not only touches your heart and makes you feel like the characters are a part of you, but it touches your soul and makes you believe in true love and the healing power that it has.

3.5 stars

This story starts off when a house fire occurs, Grace and her parents are caught in the fire and I have to admit for a moment, I thought one of them was going to meet their grisly end but thankfully that didn’t happen. David is her young neighbour who essentially saves Grace.
The story then has a time jump. Grace is out with her ‘boyfriend’ who is an idiot. Actually idiot is being nice but I won’t voice online my actual thoughts, I don’t want to get arrested.
Anyways moving on; Grace meets David after he rescues her from her 'boyfriend' but he isn’t sure if she’s ‘his Gracie.’
She goes to find him after that night and they start to bond, there are so many ups and downs, back and forth but the first part of the story is their rediscovery of each other and the love that they have for each other.
The second part is about them finding each other again, David is a bit of an idiot himself in the second part of the story but he has his reasons and whilst they don’t excuse his behaviour, it does explain the reasons behind it.
There are moments where I didn’t quite know what to expect and it unsettled me so for that reason I’m giving it 3.5 stars. Enjoyable read but I felt something was lacking.
