Dr. Mallette is an adjunct faculty at Pepperdine University and the University of Phoenix’s doctoral program and was an Instructor of Engineering at the University of Central Florida. He is chair for many, and has graduated 29, doctoral students. Dr. Mallette retired after 39 years of managing satellite-system projects at The Aerospace Corporation, Boeing, and Hughes Aircraft Company. He received the BS and MS degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Central Florida and the MBA and EdD (in organizational leadership, with honors) degrees from Pepperdine University.

Dr. Mallette has published 76 conference and 14 peer-reviewed journal articles on atomic frequency standards, satellite systems, ground stations, root-cause investigation, academic-genealogy, organizational ethics, and publishing. He is the author or co-author of the books: Dissertation Fundamentals for the Social Sciences (3rd edition, 2017), Writing for Conferences (Greenwood, 2011), The SPELIT Power Matrix (CreateSpace, 2007), The Rancho Mirage Matchbook Company (3rd edition, 2019), Images of America: Rancho Mirage (Arcadia Publishing, 2011), and the Princess Avocado (2012) series of children’s e-books.

He and his wife Kathy live in Rancho Mirage California. They have one daughter and two granddaughters. He enjoys his granddaughters, gardening projects, traveling, and woodworking.

This book is absolutely phenomenal and all I can say is, I wish I had found it sooner in my graduate career. I was invited to act as a session chair for a large conference in my field and this book provides guidance on EVERYTHING you could possibly need to know as a newly minted faculty member or graduate student from writing to publishing, to presenting yourself as an academic in an appropriate way. This is advice you will not get from your advisor, but is still valuable. The content is geared toward a broad audience, so it is not field-specific, which is helpful since most books tend to be written based upon the traditional norms within your field.

I highly recommend this as a resource and guide to anyone who is new to conferences and publishing. You will not be disappointed.

Writing for Conferences: A Handbook for Graduate Students and Faculty, is a "must have" text for any student or instructor who wishes to prepare and present a paper for conferences. The chapters include topics such as finding the "right" conference, preparing for presentation, and networking at the conference. Authors Leo Mallette and Clare Berger clearly fill a niche since there are few books which relate to this subject available. I would recommend this book highly to both graduate students and new faculty as an excellent reference guide to further publishing, career opportunities, and enhancing networking skills.
