Of course we want to write children's books because we have read lots of them and think we can do it too. Unfortunately, this book is not good for that. The only useful advice I got in this book was about creating a storyboard. Duh! I then googled "how to write children's books" and that information was all over. So no, I don't think the book is useful but I give it three stars because it is well written.
I have read several other 'writing for children' books and while others are excellent (Nancy Lamb's springs to mind), this is definitely the very best for picture book writing. I really can't recommend this highly enough!
