Good - but use your head instead of depending on it as a cookbook
on September 11, 2015
I used this to structure the sections of my MA thesis. I would warn anyone not to depend overly much on the book and be willing to break away from their linear formulas. I used it as a cookbook for my methods section, and my advisors liked that section the least. Lunenburg and Irby have you write intros and conclusions for every little section - my committee had me go back and delete most of that highly redundant material. It didn't matter that I said, "But I used a book to write this!". Also, all their examples are in the field of education. This can really throw you off when it comes to methodology - the way educators select instrumentation is really only relevant to educators. They also emphasize quantitative over qualitative methods. I wouldn't say not to get the book - it's better to have something rather than nothing, and I did lean on it quite a bit, especially in those times of transitioning to new sections when I did not have a clue where to start.
