1. Way too much time setting out the series and the scene which compromised the plot. It became tedious.
2. Very little chemistry or build-up between the characters. By 20% of the book - if there's not any fission then I'm done for.
3. The characters were clichés - Victoria starts out great as an English Doctor but then becomes a whinging blonde constantly angst-y shouting mess.
Reading Jude's POV makes me wonder if I'm actually meant to be reading about a biker. His guilt over Victoria was getting tedious - like get over it mate
4. So much of the book was creating an atmosphere and demonstrating how scary and hot Jude was and less about the plot. Even Victoria's boyfriend was a plot device to make Jude look good - he's the preppy blonde cliché who's weak and pathetic compared to Jude's criminal mob boss personality.
6. I was waiting for the banter but so far it was just shouting matches and what not.
7. The kidnapping was ridiculously executed - a total farce and unconvincing. It's been done before and much better.
1. Heroine isn't the usual trailer trash but an educated doctor with an English accent
I think this book would work better if the author focused on the plot, less melodramatic angst-y scenes and didn't rely heavily on clichés and formulaic plot devices

Before I even started this book I will say that the buzz surrounding this was amazing. I, for one, couldn't wait to start reading it. My first clue should have been in the first chapter. This book was going to be dark, if only I knew how dark it was going to get...
Meet Victoria, a resident on her way to becoming a doctor. She has everything that she has every wanted. Till she is at the wrong place at the wrong time, or is she? Her douche bag, and that's a nice name for him (I'm keeping it PG) well he owes money to the wrong people. When I say wrong people, I don't mean just the little street corner thug, I mean the kind that will find you, beat the crap out of you and then cut you into tiny little pieces. Yup this is the hero in this story.
So when her boyfriend can't come up with the money, he trades her for it. He basically exchanges a human person for a debt. Clue number two this isn't what I think it is.
This poor innocent girl is taken for a debt. What she doesn't know is that she is now entering the gates of hell.
Jude is the guy who is our main character. I can't say our hero. because frankly I couldn't even begin to like him because of his actions.
I'm the definition of wrong. I'm violent, I'm greedy, and I stop at nothing to win. I'm a notorious bookie and in my game paying with your life is not just a figure of speech. You lose, I collect. I take whatever you have.
Now that he has her, he doesn't know exactly what to do with her. Except when that seed of doubt is planted in his head, he thinks she is something or someone else. He doesn't understand his feelings towards her.Read more ›
Tor: She's my hero!! There aren't enough books out there with really strong female characters and I think she was one of the strongest I've ever read because she never gave up! Every time she had the slightest opportunity to escape she took it. Even when the chances of succeeding were slim and the outcome wouldn't be good for her she still did her best to get away. She never backed down from her captors, especially verbally. She was a badass!!!
Jude: What a loser! He's supposed to be this big-time bookie who has people working for him but never seemed to come across as anything but bumbling. He'd tell his people to do something (or stop doing something) but they'd just do what they wanted. I kept feeling like he needed to get rid of all of them and get some guys who knew how to follow directions! Jude threatening them with something but then never following through probably had a lot to do with it too. And I really hated his "I would never hurt a woman but it's not a problem for me to order someone else to torture her while I watch" attitude. What a prince.
The "cliffhanger" ending: It wasn't much of a cliffhanger and I could totally see it coming. If Jude had been a little more blessed upstairs he would have too but guess that would have spoiled the opportunity for another book!
I don't think I feel invested enough to give #2 a shot...
