I have been using a chopper or ulu (Alaskan name) for decades. I own at least 4 but since I was on vacation without access to them I ordered another. This time I thought I would try a European one as the design is somewhat more elegant and they said it was a very good blade. The cheap Alaskan ones don't keep a sharp edge.
I have now owned this set for three months. This is a nice design, and the blade holds its edge. I give the chopper five stars. However this is an inferior bowl and I just replaced it.
1. There is no slot on the cutting board to hold the cutter. There is a hole where possibly one could hang up the blade (but I have never seen a kitchen where knives are hung up). This was a problem because it slid off the board onto my foot and I came close to amputating my toe. I never had this problem with the Alaskan ulus.
2. The bowl is too shallow thus you only use a small surface of the blade. My new bowl is about twice as deep.
3. The bowl had a finish which is now coming off (see photo). Why is is finished? Who wants to eat varnish?
4. The wood is too soft and often when I chop the blade gets stuck in the wood. It is not a hard wood.
The bottom line is the chopper is good, the bowl is not.
So before you order consider your priorities. I do believe this is a better blade and looks nice . It is a shallower bowl and the food slide out more easily while chopping. There is no slot to store the blade like some other sets. I prefer the way the Alaskan ulus (particularly the cusom ones) fit in the hand better than this. But I am glad I tried this one as it was something new after decades of the other design.

I was gifted this last year and I have never used something I've been gifted as much as I have this set. The board is very high quality wood and the knife is a high quality knife as well.
I use this 2-3 times as week at least. It is perfect for chopping up veggies or peppers. They way the board is dished out to match the knife keeps items on the board while they are being chopped up unlike a flat cutting board.
It like it so much that we are giving some as gifts this year.

I bought one for myself and liked it so well and use it so much I bought one as a gift for my daughter. NOTE - do not wrap it, forget it is a basically a funny shaped knife, and then try to take it in your carry on airplane bag a couple of months later. TSA will remember it for you...

I bought this to chop up little ingredients like jalapenos and cranberries into smaller bits. Works great and it's fun to use!
Easy to clean and easy to store. I store the knife in the cardboard sleeve.

First the good. The blade is Wusthof stainless steal, made in Germany, excellent quality. It is fairly sharp out of the box and with minimal effort I was able to make the blade shaving sharp. 5/5 stars for the blade!
The bad - The cutting board seems to be covered in some sort of clear coat finish. This plastic/urethane? finish is easily scratched by the blade and flakes off. These flakes of finish would eventually wind up in your food and the gaps left behind would then let water soak into the actual wood. This was pointed out by another reviewer and my cutting board was no different. I was able to sand the finish off with some 120 grit sandpaper in about 10 minutes. This left the bare wood on the top, but I left the clear coat on the bottom. I then covered the top with a beeswax/mineral oil butcher block finish. This finish is totally safe, able to be reapplied, and protects the cutting board from water fairly well. The shape of the cutting board is good, so if you arent afraid to get your hands dirty to fix this mistake then its a good deal. 3/5 stars for cutting board, because it is salvageable.
Overall the knife is great Wusthof quality and I will probably be buying more knives from Wusthof. The cutting board was essentially Not usable without some modifications, but in the end was able to be salvaged.

I love this tool. I know what they say about having too many tools, but this is seriously one of my favorite kitchen tools ever. It is so easy to finely chop herbs with this. With a regular cutting board and knife I would send them all over the board, and would have pieces that just never seemed to cut through right. This rocks, literally, you just rock it back and forth through the herbs. It is easy to scoop things into pile and keep chopping until desired size. Knife is really sharp and I haven't had to sharpen it yet, so it holds its edge really well. I reinforced the cardboard sleeve it came in and store it in that. Just rise of the cutting board and knife, dry well and put away for next time. I bought this, when I really started to cook with the Blue Apron service because many of the meal come with and call for fresh herbs.

I bought one of these for myself years ago and have found it indispensable in my kitchen. I love to cook and I love to use fresh herbs. This is perfect for cutting herbs. I recently gifted one to my sister for her birthday.

This item is one of the best things I have ever bought from Amazon. It chops and minces different foods most efficiently such as mushrooms
green onions and bacon. It is also a most attractive and yes, beautiful object of art and design. I have already purchased two more as gifts.
Bravo Amazon for offerering this great piece of culinary use
