- Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2019This knife cuts through even the thickest bread like it was butter. We have been struggling for years with a shorter--and dull--breadknife. We should have bought this a long time ago. It is heavy which helps with the cutting--it is long so you can cut almost any size of loaf. Like other reviews, this is a wonderful knife and only regrets are that it can't be sharpened so there is the unfortunate reality of planned obsolescence. The only negative was in the packaging of the knife. The shipping packaging was fine, but the actual flimsy box that the knife comes in broke apart immediately upon opening--a bit dangerous since the knife is heavy and fell out as I lifted it up. I'm glad I didn't gift it.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 28, 2010We bought the Wusthof 10" Bread Knife because it was recommended by Cook's Illustrated Magazine as the best serrated knife available on the market. My wife and I make homemade Italian country bread and the crust is thick and can be a trick to slice well. This Wusthof 10" bread knife cuts it easily into any thickness we want -- and takes much of the manual labor out of the job. We love our new bread knife and we would recommend it to anyone who makes and loves artisan breads.
Thanks, Amazon, for the great price on this great knife!
Sincerely,
Mickey & Marie Mussett

- Reviewed in the United States on March 6, 2015I have been looking forward to replacing my very cheap and unusable bread knife for quite some time. After looking at many reviews I decided to take the plunge on this knife. I don't write reviews often, but I just had to this time because I was absolutely blown away by this knife. Absolute perfection! Picture taking a hot razor blade and slicing it through melted butter, that is how easy this knife cuts! I sliced a loaf of bread into small cubes just for fun about 30 minutes ago, that is how amazing this knife is. I used zero downward pressure, the knife is perfectly balanced and weighted and slid right through the bread with zero effort leaving only perfect cuts like store bought bread. I have searched for bread slicers and other contraptions for quite some time so my home made bread would be good for sandwich bread as well, this knife is exactly what I was looking for...congratulations Wusthof, you may have converted me from your very close competitor which I own several of their knives.....
- Reviewed in the United States on April 30, 2018Great bread knife for both hard crusted and, fresh soft crust breads. Same problem as most serrated knives - how can you sharpen them? Or do you have to buy a new one as I did?
- Reviewed in the United States on June 21, 2013I received two Wusthof 10 inch serrated bread knives from Amazon.com; they both had the same problem. I returned the first knife to Amazon yesterday, on June 20, 2013. I sent the replacement knife Amazon sent me to Wusthof in Connecticut because I want the 10 inch Wusthof serrated bread knife, but one that will cut crusty bread as it should.
When I received both knives they were beautiful, had a great feel, and were very sharp. As soon as I tried to cut some crusty artisan bread, bread which I bake all the time, the knives dulled; the entire edge on both knives folded over from end to end along the serrated side. Thus there was a burr that ran the entire length of both knives on the serrated edge. This happened as soon as I cut the first slice of crusty bread. The knives were NEVER used to cut anything but bread, and I only cut a few slices of bread. I can only believe the steel used to make these beautiful Wusthof knives must be defective, it must be very soft. NOTE: I have an eight inch Henckels serrated bread knife, a nine inch Henckels serrated bread knife and a 10 inch Victorinox serrated bread knife. They all cut the same crusty loaves of bread this Wusthof would struggle to cut, and they cut the crusty bread very well.
I want the 10 inch serrated Wusthof bread knife because I think it is a beautiful knife; I have a very nice knife collection (which includes three other serrated bread knives as stated above, all of which work well) and I feel this would make a nice addition to my collection, providing it works as it should.
The 10 inch serrated Wusthof bread knives I received were beautiful and felt great when I held them, but neither one of them would adequately cut the crust of bread that has a nice, crisp crust. Period.
I could have returned the replacement knife to Amazon for a full refund. But I sent the knife to Wusthof in Connecticut instead, so they can look at the knife and determine what is wrong, and either repair or replace the knife. I am of the belief that it cannot be repaired and must be replaced. There is no reason I can think of other than the fact that they must have used a bad batch of steel to make these knives. Wusthof is a premier knife maker; I have other knives made by them which are excellent. It must be a "one-off" problem.
BTW: I have about 35 quality knives in my collection (I've been collecting since the late 70s). I cooked professionally for 15 years and continue to cook and bake almost every day. I know the difference about how a knife should cut when properly sharpened, something else I also do (I keep all my knives razor sharp).
The reason I gave the knife 2 stars and not one is due to the fact that the replacement knife is being examined by Wusthof when it arrives there next week. I will amend my vote and post after they've had a chance to examine the knife, depending on what they tell me and the action they take.
UPDATE: They sent me a replacement knife right away. Same problem for all three knives. I changed my rating to one star due to this.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 5, 2017The knife looked like it was a returned item. Packaging was a little beat up and everything looked liked it had been dirty and then hastily cleaned. It came in a box that was marked Grand Prix II and not Classic. Certainly left me wondering. I would have returned it if it hadn't been a birthday gift that I needed the day after it arrived.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 4, 2013It might be called a bread knife, but it's far more than that. A good serrated knife is an important tool in any kitchen. From slicing tomatoes to cutting a brisket fresh off the smoker, a long, sharp, serrated blade can make all the difference in the world.
I already had a decent "bread" knife, but it was inexpensive and did not hold a sharp edge for very long. Not only that, it was only around 7 inches long and it made cutting large loaves of bread a bit troublesome. I finally decided to get a good and long serrated knife and couldn't be happier with this one.
Even after hacking through a bunch of crusty loaves and everything else, this knife still passes the newspaper test.

Es un cuchillo fantástico, pero me equivoque en el tamaño, para mi es un poco grande. De todas formas hay que tener mucho cuidado porque es como una cuchilla
It_is_just_meReviewed in Canada on February 9, 20155.0 out of 5 stars I recommend this knife; wait for a sale if you can. Happy slicing.
This is a review of the Wusthof 4151 Classic 10-Inch Bread Knife.
I really like this knife. It is well-balanced, sharp, and long enough to cut almost anything you need to cut. I've used it to slice bread, roasts, and tomatoes. It worked well doing all three, and will likely continue to use it for such tasks.
I don't have a matching set of knives...I own an old Henkels 8" chef's knife, an even older Taylor 7" chef's knife, a Wusthof Classic Ikon 4" paring knife and a 6.5" santoku knife, this 10" bread knife, and a few stamped ginsu-style Henkels knives.
This knife fits into my Wusthof knife block without issue.
I sharpen my knives before every use with a high-quality sharpening steel, and I've used a oil-based whetstone when needed with good results. I am concerned with how challenging it will be to keep this serrated blade sharp on a regular basis. How-to videos for technique should help.
I recommend this knife; wait for a sale if you can. Happy slicing.

Clive77Reviewed in France on May 13, 20165.0 out of 5 stars Ca c'est du couteau!
