It does the job, being a chef I sharpen my knives a lot, I could see my self using this up quick, the stones are thin and already wearing down. the stones are smaller then I had imagined. I thought I would like it more than having 4 or 5 stones floating around because it's more compact. But it's an awkward shape to be able to soak, and you have be careful to not soak the wood, mine is already splitting away from one of the stones. I've had it for 2 months and I've used five or 6 times, I do 3-4 knives at a time, so it's getting a lot of use in a short time span. the grits are 3000 1000 and 240. I could see how it would be good for some one who doesn't sharpen there knives that often, it's of good quality and works, but it's built for the home chef, that's where I leave it. I am probably going to buy some big fat nortons again for work. I'll probably be in the market for stones again in a year....

First of all, NO this isn't the easiest or most fool-proof method out there. Its tricky to learn to do this right. Its not the fastest method or the less messy...what it is is the BEST way that we have found to keep our expensive set of kitchen knives razor sharp. All of the gimmicky, "easy to use" sharpeners did ok job of keep the blade sharp, but they never did the job well enough that they had that professional sharp feel to them.

I highly recommend practicing on something "cheaper" then your expensive kitchen knives...hubs practiced on our steak knives. Once you figure out how to find and keep the right angle, you are ready to go!

This item will not only save you $5 or more/knife when they need to be sharpened, but unless the service is using a method that will not over heat and detemper the blade, its better to do it yourself at home. Added bonus, this method will not remove to much metal from the blade like a grinding wheel (which is what most places use) will.

Sharp knives are essential to good cooking and this stone is the perfect solution. I have had an electric sharpener for several years, but it seemed to no longer get a good edge on my knives. I suppose the diamond surface of the steel sharpener wheels does wear in time so I needed something better.

This is sharpening knives the old fashioned way and the perfect way to get a razor sharp edge on your quality knives. The nice block keeps the stone in place for easy working. This stone will last and last. It may take a little practice if you are not accustomed to using a stone, but it is well worth the effort. I test my blades by having a raw tomato or bell pepper at hand. When the knife slices into the peel of the fruit like soft butter, I know it is ready for use. This stone is excellent.

I thought buying WÜSTHOF meant buying Quality German made products. Unfortunately this is not the case here. WÜSTHOF just cares about making it cheap so they out sourced the product to china. As i opened the packaging i could already tell this is a poorly mass produced item.

The stones are poorly glued to the wooden tri-wood block with glue residual showing off the edges of the stones.

The wooden block that the tri-stone sits on is made of poor quality wood. Clearly the craftsmanship is not there either as one of the side panels of the wood was not even finished properly with varnish leaving it rough and bare.

WÜSTHOF should be ashamed of themselves for allowing something of such shoddiness to bare their name.

Was exactly as advertised. I have a great set of Wusthof Knives that had not been given the respect they deserved and became dull after time. I ordered this and went straight to work. It does take a bit of time to get the hang of the proper angle, but with some practice it becomes second nature. On my first attempt to sharpen, there was a definite improvement, but not what I had hoped for. After some thought, I knew it came down to operator error. I took a second stab at it (forgive the pun) and spending a little more time with the "fine" side of the stone was able to bring my knives back to life.

Bought this item to sharpen my Kitchen Knives (8 and 10 inch chefs knife, paring knife, 8 inch chinese cleaver)
It has three grits for dull , sharp , and scalpel sharp...
the stones are rotated on a wooden block, which also elevates the stone off the counter, making it easier to sharpen.
you simply need to wet the stone (aka whetstone) to sharpen.
I like the control of putting the angle I want, whether it be 20 degrees for my german knives, 15 for my asian knives, or more for my hunting knives.
plus it costs half as much as the electric ones.

Did a beautiful job, however I've been using whetstones since the boyscouts as a kid.
If youre not proficient in maintaining the proper angle, (takes a few tries to master)
I'd either practice on some junk knives first.. or buy one of the electrics.

thanks
