A member of the Elmer's family of brands, X-ACTO is the most recognized brand in cutting. X-ACTO is the #1 brand of pencil sharpener. X-ACTO electric pencil sharpeners are crafted from the highest quality materials, producing the reliability and performance you come to expect from X-ACTO. These electric sharpeners feature carbon steel sharpened blades and sturdy construction. So you get industry-leading durability--and a perfect point every time.
The X-ACTO ProX Electric Pencil Sharpener, with its metal construction and commercial-grade sharpener, is built to handle the heavy-duty sharpening needs of the most demanding users. Designed with the busiest classrooms and offices in mind, the X-ACTO ProX is a real work horse. The SmartStop feature indicates when the pencil is sharp, so users spend less time over-sharpening and more time getting down to work. With its fast and quiet operation, the ProX also minimizes noise and disruption.
Flexible Features Save Time and Money
The ProX is equipped with an extra-large shavings receptacle, which translates into fewer trips to the wastebasket, and precision blades that quickly sharpen the dullest pencil to the finest point. A multi-hole pencil dial accommodates a variety of pencil sizes-from fat to slim-and X-ACTO's hardened steel cutters can sharpen everything from composite to hardwood pencils: The ProX is the only sharpener you'll need to purchase to handle all your sharpening jobs.
X-ACTO puts a premium on safety. Sharpeners are designed with a number of standard features--such as non-skid feet and auto reset-shutoff to prevent overheating-aimed at encouraging safe use and performance. SafeStart technology prevents the sharpener's cutters from operating when the shaving receptacle is removed.
Thinking Clean and Green
Because you never know where a pencil has been, anti-microbial additives are included in the ProX pencil selector and shaving receptacle to inhibit bacterial and fungal growth. Keeping your carbon footprint in mind, the ProX only draws electricity when in use.

Here I am with 6 weeks left of the school year, and my pencil sharpener is working just as well as it did day 1. My next door neighbor teacher will come and sharpen her pencils in my classroom because it works so well. My students will sharpen their pencils as they walk out the door because they know I have the best one in the school.
This has really been the best pencil sharpener I've ever had. My co-worker will be getting one for her classroom as well.
- Heavy Weight. Won't move around a bunch. If you put a lot of force on the pencil, you may have to hold it down with a finger (e.g. not much pressure)
- Sharpens pencils to a sharp point
- Blue light shows when a pencil is sharpened and auto shuts off. This is great for my 3 yr old who would grind a pencil to a stub.
- Motor seems to be a workhorse. I haven't had it long, but it has not even warmed up with the use I have had with it.
- Big. This has a much larger footprint than I expected, but I didn't read the dimensions before purchasing.
- It takes a couple of inches of pencil to put into the machine. This just means you can not sharpen a pencil when it gets down to the last couple of inches.
Overall, I am happy with it. If I had to purchase again, I would either get this one or the "Teacher Pro" version. I am happy, though
- Sharpens multiple sized (diameter) pencils
- Very Quiet compared to X-Acto Powerhouse (Black)
- Nice long taper and sharp point. Clean.
- Huge shavings receptacle
- Heavy and doesn't move around.
- Auto-OFF (Works nice)
- LED indicator for Sharp (Works nicely)
- Reasonable price for Commercial grade sharpener
- Reason for 4 Stars: 3 1/4" of pencil must be inserted into the sharpener. This is a LOT of pencil. So, it's not usable pretty much after you get to 4" unless you use a tool to push the pencil in further. For artists, this is disappointing. Although I use pencil extenders, some are Derwent brand that accommodate larger diameter pencils. For these, the pencil fits down into the handle yielding a barrel/handle much larger than the actual pencil. So, these types of extenders can't be inserted. Standard extenders could push the final 3 1/4" of your pencil inside if you're careful. You may have to use a larger hole setting which could lead to some sloppiness.
I returned this because of the length issue. Also, it occasionally wasn't sharpening the end properly but I imagine it's just a defective unit and would be ok with another. Aside from the length and sharpening issue, I would have been very happy with this sharpener for its other strengths. According to Xacto's website, this unit now has a 10 year warranty (the documentation indicates 8 years inside the box). However, the blades/cutting unit is only warranted for 2 years. I had an Xacto Powerhouse (Black) that lasted only 11 months.
Make no mistake, this is an industrial strength device. Everything about it exudes strength and reliability; it could have been built on the Clyde, by dour-faced riveters. It weighs over five pounds, and stands nearly eight inches tall. The styling is reminiscent of Bauhaus - it would not look out of place aboard the Hindenburg (well, apart from the weight). The mechanism is quiet and free from vibration: it would fit right into an office environment.
So here's the thing: it's clearly designed as a heavy duty sharpener, for industrial use, but it's elegant enough to make an extremely cool, and slightly intimidating, addition to any office desk.
Impress your colleagues and intimidate your opponents. Buy one.
And for all you Vine reviewers who got one and found it was overkill, how about donating it to your local school. That's what I'm going to do.
LED sharp point indicator is a nice feature
adjustable pencil sizes
Questionable build quality only because of plastic parts (but all manufactures do the same thing)
10 year warranty is deceiving because cutter only has 2 years, the motor and other parts are 10 years.
messy to clean up because shavings make their way behind the bin
Ugly - looks like an alien
I'll explain the questionable build quality. The cutter assembly should be all metal and it unfortunately has plastic parts holding it together. There are two screws that hold a counter weight (opposite side of the spinning cutter) as it spins (because there is only one cutter). This counter weight is held in place by these two screws that are screwed into a plastic part. On one unit I had, unfortunately the screw fell out with plastic still holding on to the screw (so the counter weight plastic screw hole broke off). So it was the plastic that failed. Well lucky it happened within my Amazon return period...but otherwise I expect that the manufacture warranty would have been honored. It is still a hassle. Other questionable build quality issue is the clip that locks the bin in place is held there by a weak rivet. On the similar Teacher Pro the clip is not riveted because it is just a plastic clip that is part of the base and looks more secure.
It would have been nice if the cutting mechanism was user replaceable and it isn't and there isn't even a replacement part available.Read more ›
