X-Acto has updated the ruler - it is now thinner with cork backing.

I purchased this ruler based mainly on the reviews of how thick it was, and that it had the markings (inches and cm) on both sides. On receiving the ruler, though, it seemed pretty thin and flimsy, and it has a cork backing with markings on only one side. Also, unlike in the picture, inches and centimeters do not start at the same end with the same orientation - now, inches start on one end, centimeters on the other, and you flip the ruler around to read one or the other (that is, they're upside from each other as on most rulers, and unlike in the photo).

Just based on the single-sided markings and the cork, I thought maybe they shipped me the wrong ruler, but I checked the bar-code and it matches the one in the photo (but my X-Acto sticker now says "No slip cork back" above "Stainless steel". All of this probably seems a bit nit-picky, but I actually didn't *want* a cork back, and I did want etched markings on both sides. The steel is definitely not 1/16" anymore, it's less than 1/32". So, for not matching the photo, and for being changed without the SKU changing, I'm dinging the rating to 3 stars. I'm going to keep it, and use it, but I sort of wanted the kind of ruler my dad had for his machine-shop business when I was a kid (sturdier, 2-sided, no cork, etc).

I believe this Warehouse sells old stuff, not overstock. The stickers are hard to remove because, like masking tape, the adhesive hardens. I start off with my fingernails, then gently pull at an angle. It's much easier than using adhesive remover, then you have a fine old-fashioned ruler!

I guess I should have paid attention to how wide it was. It is too thin to use for cutting with an X-Acto knife unless you want to cut the side of your hand. I didn't want one with a cork backing but decided to try it anyway...but now I think it will peel off. AND...the label won't come off so I cannot see a quarter of the ruler. I suppose I can apply some oil or some goo gone on it but really, I don't care...I will use this for a straight edge but not for cutting and not for measuring.

I use this ruler quite a bit as a guide for my cutting knife. It works well because the knife isn't able to nick the metal ruler. On both sides, this ruler has metric measurements (centimeters) along the top edge and US/English measurements (inches) running along the bottom edge. Both measurements start from the same end of the ruler. That is my one complaint because you can never measure something in inches if you hold the ruler beneath it. If you place the edge marked with inches beneath something, the measurements appear upside-down and run from 12 inches on the left down to 0 inches on the right. I've owned other rulers that at least reversed the orientation of centimeters and inches on the reverse side, but for some reason this ruler doesn't do that. If you simply need a straight-edge to make cuts, though, this ruler works well.

The picture is quite misleading... same as this review's title. Cork backing is not a biggie but it's just so easy to peel off. What's worse is the metric starts from the rounded end which is not at the edge. Are you kdding me? Change the picture now! I could've returned it without a problem. But just being lazy.
