Amazing Game!!

I have to admit that I put off buying this game for a long time as I dislike turn-based games other than the Civilization series. Since this is by Firaxis, who of course makes the Civ series, I decided to try it out. Now I wish I had given it more attention before!

The gameplay is incredible. There are basically two parts to the game. One where you manage your base, finances, etc and the other where you go on missions. The missions are all turn based where you hand pick the team you want to go on the mission and then tell them where to move and what to attack. It is very strategic and leaves plenty of ways to complete the mission.

It is very challenging, even on "normal" difficulty, but it is very rewarding as well. Just remember to save often and you'll do fine.

Overall, I think this game deserves all the praise it got and I can't recommend it enough if you like strategy/tactical games.

I would say "currently clocked at 186 hours on steam, nuff said," but lets go a little more in-depth than that.

originally played on ps3, I was browsing the dlc price when I noticed that it would cost only $2 more to have the whole game on steam (was on sale at the time)!
and while it was still the same game, with the same story, gameplay, and bugs (oh the bugs!), the lack of slowdown, even minute as it was on the ps3, was refreshing. Bumping the graphics settings all to its max also made the game very nice to look at without the texture pop in on the console version.

plus, with the release of the expansion, it was made even more appealing since the console release of it includes the first game, which would have made my original purchase and planned purchase of the dlc moot. while its pc release came with a lower price.
this, by the way, is a recommendation of the expansion as well, but having bought it outside amazon, will only mention it here (go get it! 86 of the 186 hours mentioned was after the expansion).

this isn't meant to bash on the console version at all. after all, having completed the game on ps3 several times, its pretty clear it was also a good purchase at the time, even having bought it day 1.

Well I gotta admit that I'm kinda new to the whole turn by turn strategy games, but since I've seen the positive reviews about xcom - enemy unknown, I thought I should give it a try. Amazon had an offer that I couldn't resist, you get to download the full game to your steam library, plus the two dlc's included, for only 10 bucks, while the basic game is around 40 to 50 bucks... Awesome. So as I mentioned before, I've never played the turn by turn genre of games, but as soon as I got into the actual game, I've seen the advantage over regular RTS games. Since you get only two times to move any soldier of your team at his turn, you'll have to consider a numerous of creative ways to get to cover, while maintaining a good position to attack the aliens. It is the most and best strategic game I've been playing so far, and the whole experience, the graphics, the soundtrack and even the voice acting, it's all completes the enjoyment of what this game got to offer. My advice, go buy this game, you won't regret it. It is absolutely replayable, cause there's thousands of ways to flank your enemies, with tons of different attacking options, and weapons. 10/10 for me.

I bought this game for around 10 dollars, and it has great play value as well as replay value! I think the $10 was definitely worth spending for this game. The installation process was through Steam, and as soon as I bought it, Amazon provided me with my keys to put into Steam. It was a quick process and I am happy Amazon was able to provide me the game keys instantly.
The game is quite fun and has challenging difficulties that are rewarding to beat. The new game with expansion pack is coming out soon, but this game is still a good game to pickup for such a low price. Unfortunately, there are a few bugs in the game that can become annoying, but overall its a great turn-based strategy game that was much needed for that niche market of gaming.

X-COM: Enemy Unknown is a fantastic game. It's a throwback to the ancient X-Com but is updated well for 2013. The high score on metacritic is justified.

The DLCs are a giant waste of money. One gives you some more skins, another gives you 3 missions fairly early in the game that give you a lot of loot.

But to get the game plus both DLCs for $10 is a great deal.

X-com is a great strategy game, where on the hard modes with iron man on it becomes more of a emotional roller coaster but you'll never stop and always say "Just one more mission and I'm done tonight" Leaving you to find out you were suppose to sleep 4 hours ago.

Worth the price and I'd recommend it if your a bit worried about enjoying it just wait for it to be on sale. Might be a little hard to get into at first but once you figure everything out you'll be fine even on impossible but its a bit different from the others.

It feels and plays amazing. Even though it's bit simpler than original (especially base management) it's complex enough to make it a challenging experience. And it's fun... and unforgiving: single mistake in battle can mean losing half of your squad even on 'normal' difficulty. But most of all it's fun: catching up with aliens technology to be finally able to raid ufos with squad equipped with plasma, fear of pressing 'Scan for activity' when half of your veteran squad is wounded, finally stunning this battle raged alien after losing two men... Sure - some bugs are present, but nothing that stops you from enjoying game. Playing it second time now, can't stop - help!
