Appropriately billed as "one of the most anticipated adventure games of the year," Fox Interactive's The X-Files Game plops you into the role of an FBI special agent. In this game, you work overtime to help find and save agents Mulder and Scully. Prima's guide offers a pair of walk-throughs to step you through the entire adventure. The first is a thorough, step-by-step solution for every single aspect of the game, while the second is a quick-and-dirty guide through the game's critical path. The book also lists and describes the many items and characters you'll run across. Most of these are right out of the TV series, and the book also lists the first series appearance for each. You can cross-reference this information using the abbreviated episode guide in the back of the book. (It lists every episode for the first four seasons.) Finally, the book includes a Q & A session with the game's developer (Greg Roache) and a full-color spread of publicity shots for each of the TV show's recurring characters. --Michael Ryan

This extremely helpful guidebook escorts readers through the entire interactive adventure. The first of two walk-throughs includes an exhaustive, step-by-step solution for every facet of the game, explaining just how the gameplay will be affected by the player's choices and character's demeanor. The second walk-through, dubbed "The Sweet Path," tours swiftly through the game's critical path. Diehard X-philes will appreciate how the book lists and describes the myriad items and characters encountered—a number of which are ripped right from the TV series—and, respectively, how to best utilize and interact with them. The final pages of the book contain an abbreviated episode guide for the first four seasons.
Fans of The X-Files should enjoy playing the game as much as I have. Not only is it intriguing, but it ties beautifully into the show's overarching mythology. What's great about this strategy guide is it significantly enhances the gameplay, revealing the minute details and Easter Eggs that players may otherwise overlook. With a lush photo gallery insert of the show's recurring characters and a Q&A session with the game's developer, this well-crafted strategy guide is well worth the money.
