MAN-THING’S CURSE HAS BEEN REVEALED...BUT IT’S UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT! Years ago, DOCTOR TED SALLIS was ready to give up anything to crack the SO-2 serum and deliver success to his growing family. Unbeknownst to the rest of the world...he did. Today, as cities spanning from the U.S. to Krakoa are besieged by fear-driven blazes, the MAN-THING must reckon with his past deeds if he hopes to emerge renewed and rescue a world on fire. But fighting from his lowest means that Man-Thing can rise to his highest, especially with the unexpected help of the X-MEN’S resident sorceress MAGIK and her debuting team of monstrous mutants known as THE DARK RIDERS!

About six years ago I stopped reading current comics. The reason for stopping was I had begun to create my own comic and didn't want to subconsciously copy other ideas. I broke my abstinence to read this issue as it's the latest use of Belasco. I'm catching up on my favorite Marvel villain and wanted to see how Marvel is using him today. The artwork and writing are excellent in this issue. The art is fun to look at and the writing keeps you turning the page. However, it doesn't connect with me. I think because it's not 1988 anymore and I'm not 13. I'm 46. I'm not diggin' Ilyana's personality or Belsco's look in this issue. Illyana felt like a cashier working on her tenth hour at a job she hates, not the Soviet snowflake Chris Claremont wrote about in the eighties. And I prefer a Belasco that looks like a 13th-century Italian aristocrat who played with black magic a little too much. I'm hoping Marvel introduces him into the MCU and keeps the sic threads... 3:)
