Ok little speakers

I purchased these speakers with some pretty high hopes. They arrived and I can say they are ok. I then bought the iHome iHM79 in hopes they would sound better. And iHomes do. I will do a comparison of these two.

Size/Weight:
The X-Minis are smaller and lighter that the iHome. The X-minis win this one.

Build Quality:
Because the X-minis are smaller and lighter, they also feel a bit flimsier. The iHomes have more heft and feel more solid than the X-minis. The drivers of the X-minis are exposed while the iHomes are enclosed. Point goes to the iHomes.

Cables:
The cables on the iHomes are longer, better quality and have a clip to keep them organized. The X-minis have a volume control; see sound quality for additional info. Point to iHomes.

Charge time/duration:
They run about equal. Tie

Sound Quality:
This is where we get into sticky territory. There are mixed feelings and reviews for both. This is my opinion after A/B them from my iphone using the same song, set to the same volume with the volume control set to max on the X-mini cable. First I plugged in the X-minis and hit play. They sounded nice mid volume, clear, ok volume. Next I plugged in the iHomes. The volume was ever so slightly less than the X-minis but keep in mind they have no volume control on the cable like the X-minis. The sound quality was better on the iHomes. They had a fuller, richer, crisper sound than the X-minis even though not quite as loud, the difference in volume is almost unnoticeable. I then turned up the volume and the iHomes did not distort. I replugged in the X-minis and turned the volume to the same level as the iHomes and the X-minis had noticeable distortion.

For the price, the X-minis are ok. I personally prefer the iHomes.

not too shabby

I bought these speakers for my tablet so I would be able to watch Netflix/Hulu while in the kitchen. From what I've seen so far, they aren't bad. They are louder than the built-in speakers, and they give a better sound. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to make them work, but I think that had more to do with this tablet or win8 or both. They both worked great out of the package and I don't hear a hissing/crackling, even at full volume. There is an in-line volume control, and as stated by other reviewers, the charge lights are super bright. Overall, very happy with them so far. They do what they claim to do and at a very reasonable price. I'm kinds curious about the daisy-chain feature and am considering buying another pair or 2.

UPDATE: I have now been using them for a while, and I've noticed that if they are plugged in and nothing it playing, there is a hissing noise/static that is audible. But once Netflix or Hulu starts, it's not noticeable if it's even still there at all.

Worked well for a little while...

I used these speakers for about 6 months and they were pretty decent up until one of the USB ports on the speakers stopped working. The speakers can put out a lot of decibels for their size and travel well due to their size and magnets on the bottoms which keeps them together. They charge up pretty quickly and the battery life is alright. After 6 months, one of the speakers stopped outputting sound and I found that one of the pins in the USB port had fallen out. Since there's no easy way to replace it I tried a warranty claim with the manufacturer but was declined because the purchase was made on Amazon (which they don't cover). Luckily I was able to use another purchase protection program to get a refund. I chose not to get it replaced because I didn't want to end up with the same problem in 6 months. Next time I'll go with something a bit higher quality, even if it means paying a little bit more.

Defective; high failure rate!

I ordered the X-Mini MAX II Capsule Speakers based on the glowing reviews, but like many other reviewers, it appears I received a defective product. I returned it quickly for a refund (the purchase was fulfilled by Amazon, so it was returnable through Amz). If you look at the number of reviews that had defective speakers (either right away or within weeks), you'll see the failure rate on these speakers is high. Even some reviewers who had speakers go out on them after a month or so gave them two and three stars (?). The speakers I received had constant hiss, static, radio frequency - RF noise, whatever you want to call it. Also, the sound was distorted at medium volume, and the sound quality in general (if one could ignore the hiss) was not great. I am bummed because I really liked the design and spent a long time deciding which speaker to get. If you order these, you are taking a chance. You may want to make sure you can easily return them and hope if they fail, they do so within the return window.

ABSOLUTELY JUNK CABLE

I have THREE (3) sets of X-Mini MAX II XAM7-R speakers. They are great speakers, but the cables are TRASH!!! Worse, is there's only one place I found to supply cables and they're $10 which is 1/2 the price of the new speaker set. The volume dial is as cheap feeling/performing as something could be. I've had 2 of the 3 fail so far rendering 2 of my 3 sets of speakers useless. ALL THREE (3) made loud crackling sound or simply cut off when adjusting from the first use brand new.

For such a quality speaker the cable the cables are TRASH as 100% have issues based upon reviews and my experience. DON'T BUY THEM UNTIL THE MANUFACTURER AND DISTRIBUTION CHANNEL DECIDE TO CORRECT THIS SYSTEMIC PROBLEM!!!!!
