I cannot believe I own this treasure. Not too long ago a hot air rework station cost about the same as a small car. The PID controller keeps the iron temperature right where it is set. The iron heats up to 325C in less than 30s. Put the iron back in the stand and it goes to sleep, a safe state. Same with the hot air. Sleep can be overridden for each device for production work. It comes with a full assortment of good quality iron tips.

Cons

-Give me my $5 back for the crappy 2X magnifying light with the 12" cord. With a cord that short, I was certain it would plug into the back of the unit. Nope.
-Tweezers are OK. Their finish could be better. Spend $13 and get a top-quality set of tweezers like Wiha 44501 Stainless Steel Fine Point Professional ESD Precision or similar.
-Give me a place to put a brass tip cleaner instead of a water sponge: the water sponge cools the tip, thermally shocking it, and accelerates oxidation.
-You cannot separate the vacuum tip from the soldering iron. The idea is that the tip picks up the fumes when soldering, which it does. However, it also makes the iron more difficult to maneuver. I am likely to buy one of the lower-priced X-Tronic stations to get an iron that is separate from the vacuum.
-It is not clear in the description, but the vacuum pickup uses the same vacuum as the soldering iron. You *can* run both the iron and vacuum pickup, it just means the iron has no vacuum for fumes. What I find annoying is that switching requires that disconnect/reconnect to use.
-There was a bead of stray black ABS plastic on the metal portion of the hot air gun that I didn't see before it started. It generated smelly smoke and minor concern before I saw where it was and removed it.
-Rotary knob could use detents.

General Comments
------------------------
Most of the Cons are really quite small, in the "minor annoyance" category.
Pay attention to the illustrations. How to holster the hot air gun is not immediately apparent and must be done correctly for the sleep function.
I've only had the unit in use for a few weeks. So far, I really like it: it compares favorably to the far more expensive Weller hot air reflow units I've used. I will update this in a few months with more details on my experiences.

Technical support is FAST and EXCELLENT. I sent an email to technical support on Friday morning at 7:59AM. By 9:01AM tech support shipped me a replacement for the part I damaged via Priority Mail, no charge. (For those keeping score at home, that is 1hr and 2min response time.) Wow! WOW! I received the replacement part in the mail yesterday and installed it this morning. Technical support doesn't get better than that. Let's not kid anybody: when we are buying technical parts made overseas, technical support is something we worry about.

Make certain to REMOVE THE RED SCREW from the bottom. The perforated guard around the hot air gun had melted - entirely my fault, I failed to remove the red screw that protects the diaphragm pump during shipping. Since the unit still blew hot air and reflowed solder, I didn't realize that the metal barrel was overheating from insufficient air flow until the perforated guard melted to the barrel and created a low of smoke.

Read lots of reviews on soldering stations. Hours of research before purchasing my first home soldering station.
Went with the X-Tronic #9020-XTS as it seems that their tech support is good and quite honestly everything has a chance of dying.
It seemed like they took care of customers and this alone sold the product...

I am not putting that to the test as the unit arrived with the stupid magic screw already removed and floating around the box and the suction quit working within 20 minutes of use.
This is a poorly designed idea. Cmon now... Think about it...

Anyway,
The rest of the unit seems as expected for the time.
I haven't used it a lot yet due to the problem however the fume extractor is not a requirement for use so depending on tech support ill have more to say soon...
3 Stars for now. If tech support resolved this in a timely manner and all is well, then ill up the stars once resolved.
If tech support drops the ball ill lower it more and process a return.

---UPDATE--- 2015/08/15
Ok, well, tech support was quick to respond and willing to replace or return the unit. Which was good. But i ended up fixing my own problem and due to what i found the rating is dropping from 3 stars to 2. See 2nd issue for more on that...

The intake for the suction, where it attaches to the unit (pictures) had plastic that had almost closed off the hole. You know how you have plastic on the edges of models and stuff? Well it was like that, but on the inside. This had mostly closed off the hole, and as i started using it dust and no doubt particles from the solder sealed it up. I wish i would have gotten a picture of the unit before i cleaned it out.
Anyway, i poked a hole through the dust and confirmed the issue. Then reamed it out with a drill bit by hand. This opened it op fully and maybe even more than the original spec. (didnt even think to take a pic before fixing it!!! DOH! )

Now the suction works better than new! But it also arrived half plugged from the factory so hhhmmmm.
Also worth noting. They have found this problem on the nipple that unscrews as it had been manually reamed out a bit by someone other than me. I think you can see it in the picture. But inside the unit had not been touched.
This was an obvious quality control issue. Either QA has not caught this, which i find hard to believe with all the complaints about suction and that the nipple side was manually reamed... Or, someone was a slacker and then QA missed it.

As mentioned though, support was responsive and willing to take care of the issue, so that's good.
I also suspect over time even on a perfect unit that this pathway for air will get plugged due to rosin residue that gets sucked up, or even dust. So annual cleaning will probably need to be done to keep the suction working properly. More often with heavy use...

2ND ISSUE: 1 other issue i've discovered. The iron holder has a spot on top for the tips to be stored. THEY DONT FIT! Not a one of them. It looks like they would have fit until the power-coating was added, now they don't. This is an unbelievable issue. And of course i dont have a drill but the right size so that they dont wobble around...
This cost them another star...

Unit seems to heat up quick and now the suction works awesome. No other complaints at this point. Id still recommend the unit due to cost vs features, if your willing to do a little bit of finish work yourself.

If your a hobbyist and enjoy fixing things, this unit is for you! You get to do the finish and QA work for them. What excitement to participate in the manufacturing process!
If its on the company dime and you want a 100% functional unit, spend the mans money elsewhere.
But then i doubt the ones spending company money are looking for a unit with integrated suction then either...

So, i was on here a few days ago and i don't know if i didn't save my update or what... But its gone.
And im not re-typing everything....

In a nutshell, support has resolved this situation. I also heard from the CEO of X-Tronic by the time i was all said and done.
I feel that the company is doing what they can in this world to provide a quality product. Unfortunately, the world is what it is.
I think they could do a bit more with QA, but then when isn't that true for even the best companies out there i guess right?

I think id rather get a broken product and have tech support willing to help, then to buy something that looks great, and doesn't last, and has no support.
I hope to have my own company take off here soon, and when it does ill be back for more soldering stations from X-Tronic. :-)

Well, after using the 9020 - XTS for about six months now, I am not impressed. I do apologize, but it is the truth. Don't get me wrong, it has some very nice features, but it does nothing like X-tronic claims, which is upsetting. There is in fact about a 10 second delay on the iron set to 750 F when coming out of sleep mode. When coming from a cold start there is about a 25 second delay. This means the temp control is not reading the actual temperature, only the setting. It does however do a fantastic job of maintaining the temp at it's setting. The big fallback on this unit is the smoke extractor. It is virtually pointless after about four months of use. The back pressure of the closed canister design has weakened the diaphragm to the point it cannot hardly extract the smoke unless you removed the air line that leads to the heat gun. Then you have to ask, what's the point? Even so it should still be used because the filter at least removes 80% of the smoke particles. The problem is you are recirculating the other 20% of fumes into the room, meaning you have to open up a window and blow a fan. So again, what's the point? X-tronic gave excuses when a corrective proposal was given to them. They stated it would be a legality issue with their Chinese manufacturer. YES, you read right, Chinese designed and built, NOT USA built.
