X-MEN: FIRST CLASS charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events. Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop nuclear Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto's Brotherhood and Professor X's X-Men.

As you see in the picture from Amazon, as well as my own pictures, it comes with a really cool slip cover, featuring Magneto. The actual DVD case has a completely different picture.
The only bad thing about this DVD, is the unfortunate lack of special features, so if those are important to you, I advise looking into another release.
The DVD does come with a digital copy. The video quality of the DVD is very good, for a DVD of course. Not HD, but I'd say as close to it as you can get with a DVD.
If you are still a DVD collector, due to not wanting to switch formats, or price, you can't go wrong here if you enjoy the X-Men movies!
The first two 'original' X-Men movies focus really heavily on Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. (And that's not even taking into account that he also has two origin movies all his own!) As others have noted, it felt more like Wolverine and his Mildly Likable Sidekicks than a true ensemble. Don't get me wrong: I really enjoy Wolverine and Hugh Jackman's depiction of the role, but I'm equally or more interested in other characters as well, and X-Men First Class is such a great look at how and why these people eventually became who they are.
James McAvoy had some pretty gigantic shoes to fill as a young Charles Xavier who would later be played by the iconic Patrick Stewart, but much to my very happy surprise he gives this fiercely intelligent, kind but flawed man a wonderful amount of depth and nuance. The charismatic, talented Jennifer Lawrence pops up as Mystique, and her scenes are fun even if you don't know all that much about what the the character turned out to be like as an adult. Nicholas Hault is highly enjoyable as Beast, who I have a soft spot for. And Michael Fassbender, who I have to admit I'd never heard of prior to this role, absolutely blew me away as a young Magneto. His layered, oddly touching friendship with McAvoy's Charles Xavier is the soul of this film for me, and it's arguably the best and most memorable dynamic we've seen developed so far in any X-Men film.
Rest assured that this movie isn't TOO 'talky' and self-consciously introspective, though---there's plenty of wonder and fun and pure action. Even as someone who's not usually a huge fan of this genre, I have to very highly recommend this one for X-men fans and non-fans alike. It also doesn't hurt that this DVD is currently selling for an EXTREMELY reasonable price :) Enjoy!

Four EPIC Stars. "X-Men: First Class" traces the initial, fateful meeting of strange, powerful mutants from around the world, as identified by Professor X with government aid using an early Cerebro. But even more sinister and powerful forces are at work by another powerful mutant, all set against the backdrop of the true story of an international crisis of the 1960s. And one vengeful mutant has a decades old score to settle. This epic beginning of the X-Men story has a convoluted plot, fantastic CGI, great characterizations played by a superbly-talented cast featuring some major mutants who will appear again and again in future X-Men movies based on two timelines, including one cameo by a major character. But ultimately the slowly-developed, overly-ambitious movie is long with too many subplots and characters stuffed into the major plot. Starring James McAvoy, MIchael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Kevin Bacon, January Jones, Nicholas Hoult, Rose Byrne, Zoë Kravitz, Lucas Till, Oliver Platt, Jason Fleming, Edi Gathegi, and many more. Visual effects are designed by John Dykstra. Costume designer is Sammy Sheldon. Directed by Matthew Vaughn. Very Definitely Recommended as a bench mark X-Men movie from the Marvel Universe. Four ADVENTUROUS Stars. (20th Century Fox, Bad Hat Harry, Dune Entertainment, and Marvel Entertainment. Rated PG-13 with much death and gore. Color. HD. CC. X-Ray. Time-2:11:42.)
I thought the writing was smart in positioning these characters away from the movies that were already done previously while also introducing some mutant characters that were in the original comics but not written into the earlier film adaptations. I also like the idea that real historic events are used to tell a story and make the overall plot a little more believable... for a Sci-Fi movie.
Super important to know where the Xmen came from.... not just a superhero team that automatically existed to save humanity. It's also nice that these marvel movies are portraying characters that make mistakes, and not perfect.... I think that is part of the success of this movie. Not just overall good/evil, but bending the rules a bit.
Another disc included for extras... Not a whole lot, but a lot for the movie lovers. Again, I'm going to reference my first comment that they will probably release a collection with even more extras, but definitely get a good bang for your buck with this blu-ray disc.
