Unfortunately, these modules are horribly unreliable. Within a couple weeks, the first module I ordered stopped responding to on/off signals. Smarthome replace it quickly, to their credit. Two weeks after receiving the replacement module, it decided to ignore what I had set the dials to and only respond on code A3. I'll be returning it yet again.
Recently I was donating some things to Goodwill and happened to find a brand-new X10 controller and wall switch on the shelf for $3 and it got me motivated to once again centralize control of a number of lights around my house. As happens, some of my old modules were getting wonky and did not turn on and off dependably. I rarely have any light at home turned on fully bright so a dimmable switch is mandatory.
I bought this module to replace one of the older ones that turned the light on to full bright immediately. I like the improvement that the LM465 ramps up slowly (and does the reverse when shut off). It is an improvement over older technology.
Note that when dimming using this module it changes the light intensity in one smooth continuous motion. Sometime you may see comments that some X10 modules change the lighting in discreet steps. That is true if you use wireless X10 modules which use a slightly different process to dim lights. Using a Powerhouse MC10A controller with this module there is no stepping effect at all.
Two cautions. These don't seem to work well with most CFL's, which aren't dim-able and don't seem to like whatever the module does to the AC power even if you don't dim. They also don't work well with my Christmas Candle lights, probably due to the embedded electronics that turn the Candles off automatically interacting with the Lamp Module's electronics. I have to walk around the house, power cycling most of the candles to make them light. Turning everything off does work, though.
I've been able to use the X10 Appliance Module with both the CFL's and the Christmas Candles, but of course you lose the dimming feature for anything else attached to them.
Otherwise, Great Product at bargain price.
I will have to call support (If I can figure out who to call). One device came from one shipper and one from Amazon.... Until today I had no problem with ordering things on Amazon... I hope I can resolve this without wasting my money,

Works with my old X-10 remote. Just a LOT more expensive than they used to be!Published 18 days ago by Amazon Customer
Buy the X10 Pro instead. Although they must have sold a million of these units, the X10 Pro is clearly superior in performance.Published 1 month ago by Gmaz
Allows you to remotely turn a lamp off or on, and includes a full range dimmer too.Published 1 month ago by Nicholas Wilson
Not quite the same as the previous Radio Shack X10 version I had in that it ramps up to bright instead of jumping to full bright. It works well though.Published 2 months ago by Douglas C Simpson
