I have an Insteon home, but there were a few places where I didn't want to dig into the switch boxes. In those sites, I needed a product that could go on the wall like a normal switch. There is no equivalent product in the Insteon world.

So I got a few of these very inexpensive switches and a costly EZX10RF unit to translate their signals to Insteon codes for the powerline. These switches work as advertised and I've had no issues with range.

They are a little finnicky about how long you hold the button while programming them. Also, they don't seem to have non-volatile memory, so if the battery runs out or is removed you'll have to re-set the house code and number. But it's not a long or difficult procedure. The battery is a CR2026 watch battery, the same as taken by many car fobs these days. Available at any Radioshack.

The switches are a little on the white side for my aesthetic sensibilities but don't look overly cheap and don't stick out too far. The adhesive pads they come with are fine.

I live in an old house. The house was not built with wall switches and overhead lights in every room. I also added on an attic fan to pull air into the house instead of an expensive air conditioner. This device allows me to plug lamps and the fan into the X10 wall modules and just treat them as if I'd pulled the wires through the walls. Saved me hundreds of dollars and time! Better still, I can velcro-tape it to the wall, and move it around with me if I need to turn the light on from another location!

I've used X-10 products for years. Needed this additional switch on my wife's side of the bed. As usual it was a quick installation and all is well. X-10 is good, cheap automation. The negative reviews here I believe are from folks who are trying to get X-10 to do things they weren't designed to do -- usually that translates to range issues, bad programming or a bad transceiver.

This does the job, but there are 3 weaknesses to the switch, IMO:
1. the adhesive strips on the back won't hold it to a painted wall,
2. the switches are 'on' to the left and 'off' to the right, and
3. the battery falls out when it falls off the wall, so you have to reprogram it.

Bought 2 of them. Used them for a lamp and a ceiling light. Limited range - sometimes requires pressing the "on-off" buttons several times. This is really old technology, by the way. I purchased the same model 15 years ago - it really needs to be upgraded

Very thin and compact. If you want to add some X-10 light switches to the wall and have it look like a conventional wall plate then this is the way to go.

My GF was shocked to see how thin and compact this remote is.

The double stick tape did not adhere to our walls very well and the switch plate fell off the wall, currently we're looking for some better tape to remount it. Meanwhile it's sitting on a bookshelf near where it would be mounted, we're using it anyway.

Love my X-10 gadgets and glad the new owners have kept it inexpensive and useful.

Happy remote controlling to all!

Purchased as a replacement for same switch I has for last 8 years.
Works fine with X10 system.
The stick adhesive tape on the back is very thin (looks like double side scotch tape).
I had to replace with thicker double side foam tape.

It works well in my living room with 3 lamps. Peel and sticks to the wall, and looks like it belongs there... However, if the battery is removed or your kids mess with it and hold down the wrong buttons and reset it, then you have to reprogram it.... For me this is a bit tedious since my lamps are on 5+6+7 (not the default 1+2+3). I keep the instruction booklet handy because I can never remember how I did it.
