The idea is great. When I first put them in (3) they worked great then two of them started coming on by them selves. When I did a little checking on line it would seem this is quite common. So far I have only had problems with this type of switch, so I am thinking of changing them to the XPS3 which requires a neutral wire, but it seems to be a more heavy duty & reliable switch.

We bought 2 of these to use with a remote control device. Both switches stopped working all together after less than 1 week. They could not even be operated manually! We are not sure of where to go from here, but we are loathe to buy 2 more and try again.

I've got a couple of these installed throughout my home. Takes only a minute to install and they work great. To be honest, I've only installed these into places where I didn't want to use the wall switch. So I can't vouch for the usability of the swtich itself. I use the remote to control the switches. These switches do dim, and they return to that same dimmed level after you turn on/off. These will work with your existing faceplate for a traditional wall switch.

These same exact switches have been around for well over a decade with no noticeable advancements whatsoever. X10, as a whole, works great if your house (or the power coming in to your house) has no electrical interference at all, which is basically impossible. I've spent hundreds of dollars installing filters, phase couplers, repeaters, amplifiers, and even a sub-panel exclusively for use with my X10 equipment and it is still not reliable.

Sure, one switch might work great here and there, but then comes the problems. One day the switch won't turn on, the next it might not dim properly, and then next it may just do something by itself. If you're just looking for something to use as a hobby type of device, X10 is fine. But just plan on about 75% reliability at best. Over the years I've owned dozens of switches, as well as some plugs, modules, sockets, etc. After trying to do a commercial install starting from scratch with new electrical wiring, I finally just gave up and sold every last unit I've ever purchased.

Please, take my advice, just bite the bullet and spend the extra money on something like INSTEON devices!

I give it 5 stars because it is exactly the model my system needs. the previous one (don't know where I got it though) lasted a few years before failing. I got two of them since I don't know when back stock of this old (yet perfect for my use) item will not be available anywhere. I have the old X10 system.

Got this setup to turn on the front porch light by using an Eagle Eye motion sensor. Had some issues setting it up as my main usb controller had to have its brained cleared as I reset some codes. Things were turning on and off all over the place but after clearing memory a few times everything is running like a champ. Just to note, this is not an instant on, it starts soft. That doesn't bother me in the least but just wanted to bring it up. Sometimes it does seem sort of odd to see a porch light turn on slowly but since it helps me not bust my hump when walking out the door, I'm good with it.

I have been using these switches since they were first offered by Radio Shack, many years ago. As they work as part of a system, it was fortunate that X10 put them out under their own name, as well, since the "Shack" stopped carrying them long ago. The switches make it easy to control wall lamps, porch lights, etc. Their only short-coming is they do eventually develop a problem of becoming unreliable in their ability to sense the switching signal the control units send out. It takes a long time for it to happen, but it eventually, always does. Regardless, if you are already invested in the X10 / Radio Shack control system, using these switches is a necessity, and they are very useful.

Have about 8 of these in use around the house. Half of them are replacement units from
previous purchases. Upon installation, they function ok, including the remote control
feature. But after a few years, the remote control function fails. Not sure why. The remote
control pad still works, and new WS467 units assigned to the same frequency on the control
pad work ok, too. Eventually the control pad fails to work as well. Something just falls out
of tolerance in these units. Not a battery problem.
