Fun, easy to learn, wild times
This game is so much fun! I started a lunch game with some coworkers and it’s been a blast. Easy to play and easy to run. Fingers crossed for a Monsteras Compendium in the future!

Terrific book for this very fun TTRPG!

This game has been perfect for my ttrpg group. It's super easy to pick up, even for people who have never played a tabletop game in their lives. We've had a lot of fun using it as a breather from D&D or to play in a world with a little more wiggle room on the rules.

I love all of our MOTW sessions, and I definitely suggest it to anyone looking to get a group together with varying experience levels and a love of episodic supernatural stories.

This is probably my favorite RPG. It's very simple to run, and the rules for players are simple enough that you can manage to run it with only one copy of the book. The character sheets are available through the game's site, and are pretty intuitive to fill out once a player picks an archetype.

The narrative structure of self-contained episodes within a season arc is very easy to create adventures with, and only requires a fairly minimal amount of prep-time. You can always prep more if you want, but there is often a very on-the-fly feel to the game, and the rules are simple and intuitive enough to facilitate this.

I have run two campaigns and my friend ran two seasons of a bigger campaign, and each is like a totally different show (I ran one with a sort of anime feel and one that was crazy sci-fi, while my friend ran a really awesome supernatural mystery campaign). It's easy to create your own house rules and add to the game as you get used to it. It's easy to improvise when player's break from the expected.
It won't satisfy the itch for strategy war-gaming that D&D does, but it will be great for when you want more of a story-telling and role-playing experience not as hampered by combat, and when you don't want to spend hours prepping each session.

My group recently started playing Monster of the Week after 15+ years of playing Pathfinder and D&D. I always thought Monster of the Week was perfect for groups who have never role played before, but my regular game group decided to give it a try and we love it.

    Who will like it:
    * People who are new to role playing
    * Lovers of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Grimm, and other shows about monster hunting
    * Players who want fewer rules to constrain their creativity
    * Players who want to spend more time exploring the story and less time in combat
    * Players who don't want inventory accounting and number crunching to be a prominent part of their game
    * Game masters who want to share the story creation with their players
    * Game masters who are intimidated by the voluminous rules of Pathfinder and D&D.

    Who MIGHT not like it:
    * Players who love rolling lots of dice
    * Players who love miniatures and tactical grid play (though you can incorporate the minis if you like)
    * Players who like having specifically defined abilities.
    * Players who like record-keeping. (they exist!)
    * Game masters who are not comfortable letting a story go where they didn't expect.
    * Game masters who are not comfortable improvising

Honestly, I was surprised at how much my game nerds have taken to it. I thought some would stumble on the lack of dice rolling for every circumstance, or the quick resolution of combat, or the free-wheeling nature of the story. But honestly, I wonder if we will ever go back to 5th Edition D&D (the best edition ever IMHO).

    Give it a try!

The wife and I decided to Give the game a try after listening to The Adventure Zone, Amnesty. It's a super fun game.

This is a book of different chapters, and I mean that sincerely. It doesn't read like a D&D rule book, it seems more like a rough draft, that was put together, and then people went home for the weekend, and when they got back, the intern had sent it to the printers.
    I love it.
It's almost subversive, how open-ended it is, how you can just open to a page at random, and something weird catches your eye.
The artwork ... well ... some are good.
But the real story here is the idea behind the game. A much more Cooperative Narration game, instead of a dice-rolling juggernaut like D&D. I'm still keeping my D&D books, but this (and the other entry, "Tome of Mysteries") are staying with me. My friends have been playing D&D for about 3 years now, and we are taking a break. I will no longer be DM, one of the players wants to be in charge of running a monster game. So, after some research, we agreed on MOTW, and we seem happy. Our first game is in two weeks, I'll let you know how it turns out.

The book itself -- and the game therein -- is awesome, and I can't wait to play it. However, on page 13 it lists "What you'll need", including "copies of the hunter playbooks", "enough hunter reference sheets to go around", "a keeper reference sheet", and "one mystery sheet for the keeper", none of which was included.

It also says "the files you need can be downloaded from here:" with a few web site addresses, but at those addresses they're just offering to sell the book (again) with digital version, or just a digital copy of the book -- nothing about those other files, and no files to download without paying more.

I've reached out to evilhat.com (one of the domains referenced in the book) and am awaiting a reply -- if those files are only available by purchasing the whole book at their web site, then this Amazon seller isn't giving you everything you need to play the game. I'll adjust my star rating up or down accordingly once I hear back.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome RPG for those looking to play monster hunters / weird phenomenon investigators!

Tired of D(umber)&D(umber)? Love monster hunter adventures? Don't care about over complicated rules that get in the way of your cool idea? Then play Monster of the Week. You won't regret it! Also, the book quality and cover art are very good. Enough to convey the base idea without overly done graphical noise.
Most publisher's should focus more on function / minimalism of their product instead of eye candy full of bloated stale nothingness.

I have just started running this tabletop game for my regular Dungeons and Dragons group and it was extremely well received as not only a great change of pace, but also as a lot of fun that left them wanting to extend the session longer and longer to keep playing. I 100% recommend this game for anyone who is a fan of the "monster of the week" style tv shows and movies, and even those aren't.
