RADEON HD 5870 Graphics Card
energy efficient processing.
Unrivaled Visuals with DirectX 11 Support
The Radeon 5870 is a graphics powerhouse. With more than two billion transistors and 2.72 TeraFLOPS of processing power, it can muscle through even the most hardware-intensive games. It also uses advanced GDDR5 memory that can keep up with the high-bandwidth demands of today's games. With so much graphic power at its disposal, the card guarantees a smooth, latency-free gaming experience.
The card also boasts superior filtering capabilities. It supports up to 24x super-sample anti-aliasing that works to smooth out jagged edges and eliminate graphical artifacts. And with up to 16x anisotropic filtering, textures appear sharper than ever.
Most importantly, however, the Radeon 5870 gives you access to DirectX 11 (DX11)--the next generation of PC graphics technology. DX11 unlocks brand-new graphical features like tessellation, which allows for greater realism and detail. More and more games rely on DX11, and with the Radeon 5870, you won't be left behind with an inferior graphics card.
ATI Eyefinity for an Immersive, Panoramic View
The Radeon 5870 also features ATI Eyefinity, a radical new technology that allows you to expand your display across up to three monitors. Using Eyefinity, you can achieve a wide, panorama-like display. Since each monitor preserves its native resolution, you'll be able to link your monitors without a decrease in sharpness.
If you're a gamer, the added visual space gives you a real advantage. Shooter fans will have expanded peripheral vision and will react faster to incoming enemies. Real-time strategists will get a commanding view of the map and will be able to execute strategies more effectively. And flight simulators will feel more immersive than ever, placing you directly in the cockpit.
High-Definition Video and Audio
With the Radeon 5870, you'll be able to enjoy all of your HD media with unparalleled crispness and clarity. The card is equipped with ATI Avivo, a new reference technology that speeds up HD image processing. With Avivo, you can expect flawless, smooth video playback, with faster decoding and post-processing than ever. Avivo also enables full HDMI connectivity and support for the latest HD color profiles, so you can watch Blu-ray movies on your computer.
The Radeon 5870 also sports an integrated audio controller that supports HD audio profiles like AC-3, AAC, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS-HD. It features up to 7.1 channel surround audio and delivers a powerful HD audio performance.
Energy Efficient and Quiet
Thanks to ATI's industry-leading power design, you'll also enjoy the ultimate in energy efficiency and quietness while using the Radeon 5870. The card utilizes PowerPlay technology, which dynamically adjusts power use depending on how active the card is. This helps the GPU disperse heat more effectively, ensuring that your card runs safely and stably. It also makes the card quieter, so you can hear your games instead of your computer.
Crossfire Support for Multiple GPU Power
PC gaming is more immersive than ever before, but it is also much more hardware intensive. To keep up with the latest benchmarks, one graphics card sometimes isn't enough. Thankfully, the ATI Radeon 5870 supports Crossfire, which allows you to link two graphics cards together for a greatly increased GPU output. This added graphic power eliminates frame-rate hiccups and slowdowns and improves your gaming even more.
The RADEON HD 5870 Graphics Card is backed by a three-year warranty.

By the way. I live in the northern US and I keep my machine in the basement. Ambient temps never go above 65F so with a full tower HAF chassis and a few 240mm fans the cards rarely get above 55C even with the fan on auto.
The fan is way too noisy at full power. I prefer those hamster-wheel fans some of the cards of this class have.
If you can afford it and can install such things, get the Arctic Accelero Xtreme cooler for it. Those are quiet, light and cool much better than stock fans.
If you want to mine Bitcoin with it, it's too slow now. Even 5970's are mining slow now that Bitcoin is more popular. Unless you can buy a rack of these, you are probably better off in a mining pool...

Win 7, 64 Bit
I started with a fresh Win 7 install, fresh Norton 2011 install followed by full Norton update and scan, full Intel mobo Integrator Update (all latest intel drivers), then Win 7 full update via MS Update. Validated latest drivers on all peripherals and proceeded to install XfX HD Radeon 5870, along with Catalyst suite 11.2.
CPU Passmark at this point was 4,667, CPU idles with 62 DegC Thermal margin, GPU idles with the temp needle at the bottom of the scale, Mobo stable at 32DegC, Chipset and I/O buffer both at 66 DegC. Case has positive air flow coming out of the top of the perforated metal at the top of the case.
Installed Crysis, patched up to 1.2.1, Crysis Warhead (patched to 1.1), and CODWAW (patched to V1.7)
I am not running any CPU or GPU overclock, all Catalyst settings on factory default. (850 GPU, 1200 memory, auto fan)
Games start fine, but then the screen randomly (2 - 10 minutes) freezes, and then the screen changes to black or green vertical lines, the system crashes and then reboots.)
I verified voltages and currents from power supply, with 3.3, 5 and 12 VDC all stable under loads from idle to 100% max CPU and GPU load.
Ran TessMark at extreme settings, and found that the "freeze" ocurred at 60 DegC on the GPU, with the fan on "Auto" running around 35-40%.Read more ›
My only complaint is that AMD have their heads up their butts when it comes to releasing stable drivers. They seem to think that releasing drivers every month is a must, even if they aren't polished. C'mon guys, WE ARE ROOTING FOR YOU!!!
In my case this card run Battlefield Bad Company 2 at 4X AA and 16 AF in 1680x1050 resolution without a problem and others DirectX11's games in high setups perfectly.
Also this card have Double Lifetime Warranty and a excellent costumer support by the manufacturer.
XFX is a great Brand.
