Ghost Thermal Technology for Cooler Performance

Through rigorous testing and analysis, XFX discovered the optimal thermal design that allows air to pass through the heatsink directly to the PCB and core components. Older enclosed designs often trapped the heat creating a bottle neck at the exhaust, this can be remedied but at the cost of a higher fan speed which creates excess noise. XFX's fan design allows lower fan speeds while allowing the heat to dissipate evenly throughout the card.

DirectX 11 Ready

Achieve ultra-realistic 3D gaming with DirectX 11 technology. Enjoy the best of next-generation gaming in amazing realistic 3D visual graphics. From realistic reflections and shadows can block the reflection of light, as they do in real life, to advanced GPU features such as Multi-Sample Anti-Aliasing (MSAA), Shader Model 5.0, DirectCompute 11 and OpenGL 4.2 support, multi-threading, and HDR texture compression.

Multi-Monitor Support

AMD EyeFinity Multi-Display lets you use one powerful card to drive up to 6 displays. Enjoy your gaming and work across multiple displays and in eye-popping real Stereo 3D. Monitors can have independent resolutions and display controls, or you can combine multiple displays to behave like a single screen. Mirror screens for presentations, and improve your productivity when working with larger spreadsheets and documents. The Multi-Display will power up to 3 connected screens by itself. Using four screens and up requires a DisplayPort 1.2 Multi Stream hub (not included).

Multi-Stream Audio

Multi-Stream audio intelligently links sound to video so that the audio is redirected to the appropriate source. This means in multi-screen conference calls, for example, you'll hear the person on the left screen coming out only from the left speaker.

Duratec: Professional Hardware Features

IP5X Dust Free

XFX graphics cards use IP5X-rated fans which offer the highest level of protection against dust and other foreign objects that can reduce the performance of fans overtime. To achieve an IP5X rating, ingress of dust must not enter in sufficient quantity to interfere with the satisfactory operation of the equipment, offering complete protection against contact.

XFX Bracket Design

Exclusive XFX Bracket design can lower your cards temperature by up to 20% by increasing airflow by up to 200%. This allows it to achieve better overclocking.

Solid Capacitors

Solid Capacitors are more durable than electrolytic capacitors so they are designed last longer and withstand more heat. Solid capacitors deliver up to 40,000 more hours of operation than electrolytic capacitors. They're designed to withstand up to 105 degrees C, and won't explode, offering a high degree of reliability and safety.

Fan Ramping

XFX fans are designed to use linear fan speed ramping controls so that fan speeds and temperatures are optimized to reduce excess noise.

I'll get this out of the way first. This went into my first build with AMD products. After being an intel/nvidia guy since windows 98 days AMD's pricing led me to give them a shot. I was not disappointed.

XFX's HD 7770 is, in performance, about between a GTX550TI and a GTX560TI (and about exactly on par with a GTX 560 SE). This card really makes AA and AF shine, much more so than the 550 TI on my other rig. It's had no struggle running skyrim on ultra and everything else as well (it's my girlfriend's PC, so she doesn't really get many intensive games).

If I had to point out one pretty brutal letdown it's the 128 bit bus, putting it below the card it's supposed to succeed (6770).

Easily overclocked to 1250 core, I hear it overclocks better than reference due to XFX's cooling.

System specs:

Gigabyte 970A-UD3 Motherboard
FX-4170 CPU (quad) @ 5ghz (reached 4.6 effortlessly with stock HS/FAN)
XFX HD 7770 1GB (the one you're looking at now)
WD Caviar Blue 500gb
Kingston HyperX ram (would not recommend, 1.65v @ 1600)
Rosewill green 630w PSU

I looked at many form factors, researched all the sites that reviewed the cards and for the price you really do get a nice bang for your buck. It took me a while to integrate the card into my system, but once all the settings were correct and I finally got the latest drivers installed, the XFX HD 7770 took off with the AMD A-10 5800K APU graphics. I tried it with games, videos and a vast assortment of video rendering items and the card performed flawlessly. Be careful if you are integrating this card in with the AMD A10-5800K series or other APU series from AMD. They are really tricky on the setup. One wrong click of a setting and your graphics purchase will be sitting in the dark. This card is able to take a voltage surge/overload and still maintain capability. I was rather impressed and pleased with that as I had to pay out money for some other components, that were already expensive enough, after the PSU decided to overload and surge the system. After it was all said and done, I plugged the card into another motherboard, it fired right up and was off and running again. Overall, it's a performance card with graphics muscle. Oh, it eats 80 watts of power and has a six prong plug for getting that power it so hungrily needs. You can't go wrong if you are on a budget. This card is "Two thumbs up" in my book.

I realize these are made by XFX but they use the new AMD GPU the Southern Islands Cape Verde GPU. The XFX card seems like a good chassic around the GPU offering adequate cooling even in cases where there is little air flow.

I got the board mostly to play with OpenCL which is a programming environment to achieve high performance computing. It is not for the faint of heart but the GCN architecture in this GPU allows algorithms that are not intentionally vectorized to run very fast as long as you give it enough work items. Essentially the GCN architecture makes OpenCL programming much easier. There are book sold by Amazon that cover OpenCL. AMD has recently released a new version of what they call AMD APP SDK as a free download for either Linux or Winblows.

The GCN architecture also handles integers well I wrote a program that calculated SHA1 hash values at over 1GB/sec. I also wrote a floating point digital filter test program that was doing close to 300 billion multiply/adds per second.

In terms of graphics I also do OpenGL programming and it is the fastest board I have even faster than an NVIDIA board that I got about a year ago at twice the price. I tried one game and it ran fast and looked great but I am not a big game player so do not look at this review for game performance assessment.

AMD's Linux graphics drivers finally seem stable and the only issue I had was if you use KDE with desktop effects, either turn them off or select OpenGL as the renderer if you use XRender which is usually the default then OpenGL apps will not update correctly.

Bottom line great board for a great price esp if you want to play with OpenCL.

AWESOME! This is without a doubt the best card I've used in a long time. The performance is amazing. Installation was too easy and it is compatible with any PCIe 2.0/2.1 or 3.0 slot. I have used some amazing cards, but for the price, they couldn't compete with this one. I wish the memory bus could have been 256 bit, but I can't complain.

One of the features I need to use occasionally is a very good HDMI output port. This video card has one that works very well. The card automatically recognized all of the HD TV's and HD/SD monitors I've connected and it even configures them instantly for a perfect display. I like to tweak settings, but nothing was left to improve when it was all said and done.

In the past few years, even some expensive ATI & nVidia video cards have had minor issues with the hdmi/TV out compatibility. Some had audio problems and others lacked resolution and refresh rate flexibility. I haven't had any issues with this purchase. In fact, the picture on my 47 inch philips TV is pure with no distorion or drawing issues. My son used that same TV as a gaming monitor for the weekend and had no issues. I also used it for my system screen for a few days and the onscreen text (Word & email) was razor sharp.

This card can put on a show. Any well written app will run fine. The display has always been fast and smooth, regardless of settings. I can run any of my apps with "High detail" and the graphics performance doesn't suffer. You can even setup certain presets for the card to use when running your apps for "app-specific" graphics options.

The biggest surprise of all was that this card run VERY cool.
