The new rig I built was mainly focused on playing StarCraft 2, so I wasn't too keen on spending too much on a card when the game doesn't require it. This card from XFX seemed to fit the bill as it had a decent amount of performance along with a reasonable price point. Most of my experience in gaming with this card is in StarCraft 2, and I can say that it runs very well overall. The frame rate isn't super-consistent, but the game has never bogged down to the point of playable (Ultra settings). I can't really comment much on any other games, so I'll just leave it at that.
My one major complaint about this card is that it can and does get obnoxiously loud under load. I feel like XFX could have done a little more to reign in this card's noise. With a pair of headphones on, it isn't quite that bad, but other people in the vicinity may not appreciate it. Even when idle, the fan is spinning around 40% and one can definitely pick the noise out.
Also, this may not be a widespread problem and may not be common at all, both units of the card I've received seem to have a noise associated with a bearing issue around the 44%-47% fan speed range. On my first unit, it was a totally ridiculous noise and one that I could not live with, so I RMA'd it. The second unit I received still exhibits some sort of whine around this speed range, but it is much more tolerable. Just something to keep in mind when purchasing this unit.
I've also had the experience of dealing with XFX's Support Ticket system when trying to find out my options for the high pitched whine my initial unit was making. The turnaround time for the Support Ticket system appears to be a day, and I felt from the responses that XFX was reluctant to have me RMA with them as they recommended I RMA with Amazon. While I would have preferred to RMA with XFX since I could request they test the replacement/repaired card before shipping it out to me, my patience with the Support Ticket's slow turnaround time wore thin over the course of four of five days, so Amazon it was. If I ever have to deal with their Support department again, I'll probably go through phone.
Overall, the card performs very well for what I use it for. It doesn't hurt that it has a lifetime warranty from XFX (after registration) should anything go wrong with it in the future. Hopefully, they'll be willing to honor it then. From my experience with this card and XFX support, I can't say that I'm left with a positive or negative impression, so three stars it is.
I can play any game I throw at it at 1920 x 1080 (high setting usually), and I can also use EYEFINITY with it.
It is no secret that AMD has inferior software/drivers to Nvidia, but they are quickly improving. Whenever there is some driver support issue with new games, they are very quick to remedy the issue with patches. I almost feel as if there are too many updates for AMD, but it is nice that they are always and constantly updating their software to play the latest and greatest games.
I purchased this card after heavily researching it on the web. Almost everywhere they mention its $/Performance ratio as one of the best out there.
There are always different makes and models of the AMD HD 6850, but I chose XFX for its Dual-Lifetime Warranty. Dual Lifetime means that I can sell this card in the future when I upgrade, and the buyer can also get a lifetime warranty.
Within XFX AMD HD 6850, there are different models available. There is little difference between any of them now -- (at first release, there was a model that required a bios flash because of a fan issue). Whether you get the dual fan one, or a "Black" Edition, they are essentially the same. I recommend going with whichever is cheapest at the time.
PROS:
-Card is small enough to fit in my Antec Mini P180 case, and have room left over for the bottom HDD cage
-Only needs one 6-Pin PSU connector
-Has DVI, HDMI, and Displayport connectors externally
-Lifetime warranty (make sure to register)
CONS:
-BIOS update needed to resolve fan speed issues (4 stars because of this)
-Selling for over MSRP currently
Other Thoughts:
-My first card from Amazon would crash consistently after installing the drivers, but after I contacted Amazon they were very prompt to overnight a replacement which worked flawlessly.
Pro's:
Performance
Image quality
Cons:
Fan is a bit on the noisy side in 3D gaming.
Some stability issues. CIV 5 crashes indicating the video driver as a cause.

Installation was simple: plug it into the mobo, power it up and away you go. The supplied driver disk had the necessary files and software but there's a newer version on the website. Strongly suggest you go there to get the latest and greatest update.
Thoroughly recommended upgrade, despite it's age this video card still has what it takes and can handle all modern games with ease.
My rig: Windows 7 64 bit, AMD Phenom II, 8GB RAM
