this has been a godsend. My hands are arthritic. With this is is easy to prop the iPad on a chair arm, lap, sofa. It is surprisingly light weight. It also lets me set the iPad on the floor if I have to get up to answer the phone or something without danger it will get trod upon by a cat. You'd have to take the iPad out of the case to take it much of anywhere, though it could be useful if you want to set it on the seat of your car. But it doesn't collapse into anything that would fit a briefcase or backpack. Still, it is easy to slide the iPad out and I have a padded thingy to use in a backpack.
You also have to slide the iPad out to use the volume buttons, but you can change volume otherwise. Similarly, the lock screen button is hidden. But I haven't had trouble with that because once I find the right way to prop it, the thing stays stable, even if I'm lying down.
bottom line: I love it. Answered my major problem with using my iPad 3. Apparently it doesn't work for the new skinny one, but I hope they'll come out with one that does before I get around to updating.
