So after about 3 weeks of playing with this product, I have to say this first. The product...

It's great... the product works great as intended. But the built quality feels cheap as i've mentioned on my 1st review. It's all plastic feeling and honestly, doesn't feel like a $120 product. The box is also meh... it's literally like a box of pills. Just a simple packaging box which i find it quit meh. At over $100, imo, it should at least have more helpful manuals like a game list of the best settings to optimize your games before using the Apex.

The App it includes which you have to download on your phone or computer is also great. You can basically customize your controls on ANY FPS game which is awesome! I absolutely loved the feeling of able to have lots of options on being able to customize my mouse and keyboard bindings, DPI, Hz, etc.

And here comes the downsides......

It's not that the product that causes my mouse stuttering... it's the games itself...

As a PC gamer who plays on 1440p, 144Hz with MAX sensitivity on all FPS games, playing with the Apex on my Xbox One X is a major downgrade and a disappointing experience (duh it's consoles! Of course it will be bad right?!?!). Well...

It's not that the experience is ruined due to uglier textures, graphics, and locked 60FPS on ever FPS games, it's the fact that most or I should say every FPS console games have limitations which prevents the APEX from pushing to it's limits and beyond.

In other words, if you want to be like Shroud, Dr.Disrespect, and many other pros who play at very FAST gameplay, have fast turn around and reactions, you are NOT going to get that from the Apex due to the games preventing/not being able to handle the turn speed from your mouse. The games simply cannot handle it which the LED light on the Apex flashes red as a warning that you're going overboard on just turning which can cause mouse stuttering. Console games aren't programmed to handle it and ONLY PC versions are able to handle the insane fast speed turns, high DPI's etc.

The only way to have a "smooth PC experience" with the Apex is to play games on lower sensitivity. Yes.. that means you will have make a sacrifice by turning around slower, having slower reactions against enemies, and not being able to play/reach at that PC Pro level. You are basically not a GOD in your online games... you are literally the guy who is playing on the nearly same (or even lower!) sensitivity as controller players and you will STILL get your ass kicked by controller players.

I've also come across several issues like when I set my Mouse DPI to it's highest settings so I can play my games on the fastest sensitivity speed, the mouse (or possibly the Apex) resets my DPI by LOWERING it to the LOWEST DPI... resulted in slower gameplay which was terrible. Not sure what's causing this issue but it was annoying.

Also at times, sometimes, your keyboard or mouse buttons don't work or it got reset to it's default. Not too sure what's causing the issue but I was unable to throw grenades in battlefield V because for some reason my grenade button (space bar), didn't work. My gaming keypad is fine too.

So overall, the product works as intended... BUT, the games are preventing it from going beyond the limit of fast gameplay. Basically only work for slower gameplay (low sensitivity wise). By playing on these settings, you will be able to play better gameplay and smoother experience. BUT... You will NOT be a god in online games...

If you want to feel the TRUE experience of PC gaming, might as well just save up for a gaming PC. But if you're a beginner and want to start using k/m before entering the PC gaming world, This product with slow gameplay is a good start for beginners. For experienced players like me, it depends on opinions/preference on gameplay but for me, this experience was quite disappointed. I don't think I can even play my games on slow gameplay.... downgraded experience imo.

I will be giving it 3 stars due to the product working great. But the many downsides of using this product is just very disappointing base on my preference of playing games.

PS... i've ONLY tested 4 games.... (Apex Legends and Fortnite NOT included). Here are my experience and ratings..

Battlefield 1: 4/5. Even at low sensitivity gameplay, this game is still fun and i'm able to get good results. Probably the best game i've tested.

Battlefield V: 3/5: Ok... but felt a bit of mouse stuttering at timers especially at it's lowest sensitivity gameplay.

Titanfall 2: 1/5: UNPLAYABLE. Do not recommend it. Tons of mouse stuttering which causes massive mouse stuttering and was unable to play on my peak performance.

Star wars battlefront 2: 3/5. it was great. Similar experience compared to BF1.

What XIM APEX does is amazing, but it also begs the question "why spend money on consoles and XIM APEX instead of getting a PC?"

PS4 Pro + XIM APEX + 1 year of Playstation Plus = $645.
GTX 1060 Gaming PC (~30% faster and 10x better than PS4 Pro) = $750.

The good:

What XIM APEX does is operate as a "man in the middle" for USB connected console controllers, pretending to be your controller in a way that the console doesn't know is happening. My limited experience with it so far is that it works pretty well, but I did have some weird issues not registering simultaneous key-presses on my USB connected keyboard. I'm not yet sure if it's an issue with XIM, the keyboard itself, or what the console will accept. I'm going to do some testing.

The XIM APEX smartphone configuration UI, especially in advanced mode, is very powerful. It lets you map mouse/keyboard to controller actions, and you can make several different mode pages per game. These can either be operated by the in-game keybinds, or custom toggle/hold mode keys. For example, when I hold my in-game (ping) key to bring up the APEX Legends ping spin-menu, my XIM APEX config automatically switches to a different mode, which has a custom mouse-response curve, to make operating the spin menu feel "natural" on the mouse, as well as bind the mouse buttons to operate menu confirm/cancel. It's pretty amazing that this just works seamlessly, whenever I hold my ping key.

Their advanced configuration UI is much more confusing than it could be, and means they can't ship "default" configs which use all these fancy features. For example, when I have a game-button related config, such as making the mouse work differently when I hold the ping hotkey, XIM doesn't know the two are connected. One is a button mapping, the other is just a custom mode page.. If XIM knew that the custom mode page was related to the button mapping, then it could ship with that custom page already setup in the default config, and whatever I changed the button mapping to would automatically activate that mode page. This isn't a huge deal, it just makes the out-of-the-box experience more complicated than it could be.

The bad:

The big problem is, why are we using XIM APEX to begin with? Using mouse and keyboard requires a desk, which begs to ask, why are you not just putting this money into a PC gaming setup instead?

$400 for a PS4 Pro, $125 for a XIM APEX, and unless you're only playing F2P games like Fortnite and APEX Legends, you get to pay $120 a year in idiotic console online multiplayer fees on top of that... and for what? To get super-pixelated 1080p on a device that can't run a real web browser, can't run PC games, can't alt-tab during the game, and where the translated mouse feels like a sluggish mess compared to the PC version.

The PS4 Pro GPU is said to be a bit slower than a GTX 1060, with a CPU that is underpowered compared to a PC eqivalent. Two minutes of searching turned up a $750 GTX 1060 gaming PC at best buy, and I bet with a bit more searching I could do better. This PC will have at least 30% better gaming performance, have none of the weird XIM APEX mouse-to-controller translation issues, and be massively more usable than a console.

So who is this consumer that wants XIM APEX?

A kid who's going to borrow the family console into their bedroom and try to "get more serious" with mouse keyboard? A streamer being paid to promote console titles and wants every advantage? Someone who really wants to play console exclusive titles, but refuses to pick up a controller?

This is not complicated to program and tutorials are amazingly good. However, the product itself is limited. I am avid fps gamer and wanted to try this out instead of modified controller (like elite or ps4 top ends). It was a waste of time. It works perfectly but there is a noticable lag even with full hud customisation. I have a gaming monitor with low latency and gaming keyboard with gaming mouse. Everything is listed as compatible but still the lag in fps for high end players is too much. If you are looking for an advantage with keyboard and mouse look somewhere else.

Also, please be aware that some games are now able to detect the xim chipset which is licensed from MS and is legitimate. However, due to the toxic game industry being as it is, you could be in trouble in some games. Your MS account is safe anyway as this does not count as a mod. Not sure about PS. Do your research and try on temp account before going full fledge mnk on controller games.

Für manche gibt es nur schwarz und weiß, so wie es für manche nur Konsoleros oder PC-Nerds gibt. Aber wie in vielen Fällen gibt es auch eine Grauzone, unzwar die, die auf beiden Plattformen suchten. Zu denen gehöre ich und Streitpunkt ist meist die Steuerung – oder eher gesagt das verwendete Eingabegerät. Meiner Meinung nach ist die Maus immer noch am besten für Shooter und Strategie, Controller meist gut für den Rest. Ein Controller bietet Komfort, selbst bei Ego Shootern (meist gut für Singleplayer), aber man merkt als PC'ler wie man im Multiplayer unterliegt.

Ich hatte mir eine PS4 gekauft, dazu überwältigten mich die Angebote und ich kaufte ein Battlefield Bundle. Diese werden in der Regel nur für Multiplayer Schlachten gezockt. Ich würde mich selbst nicht als Pro bezeichnen, aber was ich mit Controller erleben musste war unter meiner Leistung. Ich merkte wie diese Spiele mir keinen Spaß brachten. Zudem merkt man als Zwitter beider Plattformen, wenn andere keinen Controller, sondern selbst eine Maus benutzen. Und meinem empfinden nach sind es viele. Für mich war die Sache klar, mit Controller würde ich die Spiele ungern weiterspielen, also musste eine Alternative her.

Die Xim Apex kommt in einem ziemlich kleinen Paket daher. Verständlich, denn es beinhaltet lediglich den USB-Adapter und einen Hub für die Eingabegeräte. Ebenso ist eine Karte mit der Internetadresse vom Xim Apex Forum vorhanden. Dieses wird gerade dann wichtig, wenn man einiges Einstellen will – was auch nötig sein wird, damit es sich wie am PC anfühlt.

Auf die genauen Einstellungen möchte ich nicht zu direkt eingehen, da man sich dort am besten im Forum durchliest. Aber durchaus zu erwähnen ist zum Beispiel bei PS4 Nutzern die Einstellung bei Geräten/Controller/Kommunikationsmethode auf USB-Kabel zu stellen. Übrigens funktioniert die Xim auch bei anderen Konsolen wie die Xbox One, 360 und PS3. (nicht getestet)

Die Geräte sind einfach zu handhaben, Adapter in die Konsole, Hub in den Adapter und die drei Eingabegeräte in den Hub. Von links nach rechts: 3 Punkte=Controller via USB-Kabel, 2 Punkte=Tastatur und 1 Punkt=Maus. Meine Maus habe ich via USB-Empfänger kabellos verbunden.
Das wirkliche tolle, durch die Trennung von Hub und USB-Adapter, man kann dies leichter und schneller zwischen PC und Konsole umstecken.

Man lädt sich zusätzlich eine App für das Smartphone herunter. Dieses dient zum Spieleprofil wechseln und genauen Einstellungen, sprich: Tastenbelegung und Mausgeschwindigkeit. Dies lässt sich auch ohne App am PC Einstellen, ist aber dann wohl umständlicher. Die Mausgeschwindigkeit der Maus selbst soll man aufs Maximum stellen. Genauso wie meist die Stick Geschwindigkeiten im Spiel. Jedes Mal, wenn man ein Profil für ein Spiel erstellt, wird einem angeboten, direkt aus der App heraus, zum Forum zu wechseln. Dort springt er dann automatisch zum Spiele Eintrag, wo einem gezeigt wird was man Ingame am besten einstellen sollte.

Am Anfang hatte ich zwar die Geschwindigkeit so eingestellt wie ich es wollte, dennoch ruckelte die Bewegung der Maus, insbesondere beim Zielen. Hier ist es wichtig in der App, bei den Globalen Einstellungen ein Häkchen bei „Aktivere Expertenmodus“ zu setzen. Bei der Mausgeschwindigkeitseinstellung sind dann 3 Punkte, dort lassen sich nach drücken weitere Einstellungen vornehmen. Am wichtigsten ist das „weichere Zielen“. Damit kann man dann dem Ruckeleffekt entgegenwirken. Gut zu wissen ist außerdem die Unterteilung zwischen Hüftzielen und Zoomen. Man kann also rein theoretisch einstellen das er normal sich beim kleinsten Mausbeweger so schnell dreht das ihm schwindelig wird, aber beim Zoomen so langsam das man Jahre brauch um eine 360° Drehung zu absolvieren.

Jetzt zu der Frage, auf die alle warten: Wie beeinflusst Xim die Steuerung im Vergleich zum PC? Ich denke am PC ist es noch ein klitzekleiner Unterschied, aber wirklich nur klein. Das Zielen ist intuitiver, das Verfolgen von Zielen ist einfacher und auch eine plötzliche 180° Drehung ist möglich. Anmerken sollte man aber das eine Drehung nur so schnell ist wie es vom Game erlaubt wird. Von der Tastenbelegung ist man leider der Buttonanzahl des Controllers verschrieben. Man kann also z.B. Ducken und Liegen nicht auf 2 Tasten verteilen, wie man es oft am PC machen kann, sondern wie es bei den Konsolen meist auf einer Taste geteilt wird. Das hat leider die Folge, zumindest insbesondere bei Tastaturen die schnell die Eingabe auslösen, das man liegt obwohl man sich nur ducken wollte. Toll finde ich aber das die App auch Zusatzknöpfe meiner Maus erkennt, so kann man auch Mausmitteldruck oder das Rad seitlich drücken nutzen. Insgesamt merkte ich wie mein Kills/Verluste Verhältnis besser wurde, das Spielen machte mir dann wiederum auch Spaß. Meist merkt man den Unterschied zu anderen Spielern nicht, außer man ist in einem Zweikampf und der andere dreht sich nicht so schnell. Hier ist man dann im Vorteil.

Im Nachteil ist man aber oft, wenn es ums Fliegen geht, auch aus meiner Erfahrung aus Battlefield, was die Panzerturmdrehgeschwindigkeit angeht. Während das mit Fahrzeugen noch zu verschmerzen ist und nicht so ins Gewicht fällt, ist Fliegen eine Qual. Daher kann es auch Situationen geben wo der Controller genutzt werden sollte.

Leider ist das Gerät nicht wirklich Perfekt. Benutzt man eine Tastatur mit leuchtenden Tasten und diese zieht ihr Strom komplett via USB, so schaltet die Xim gerne die Tastatur ab. Für mich bedeutet es jedes Mal schnell das Leuchten per Tastaturknopf abzuschalten. Obwohl es manchmal, wenn ich es vergessen habe, ging. Ich denke das Gerät geht dort übertrieben vor. Geraten wird einem zur not ein Hub mit externer Stromversorgung zu kaufen. Alternativ gibt es auch Tastaturen die ihre Weihnachtbaumbeleuchtung extern beziehen.

Noch eine sehr seltsame Sache, bei meiner G910 erkennt die App mitunter den Shift druck nicht bei den Einstellungen. Habe ich dies mit einer anderen Tastatur eingestellt, dann klappt es auch mit der G910 Ingame. Solltet ihr also das Problem haben, so probiert es mit einer anderen Tastatur und schließt eure Lieblingstastatur nach dem Konfigurieren wieder an.

Zwei weitere Probleme die mich deutlich mehr stören sind zu einem das Abschalten des Controllers während des spielens. Tendenziell spielt man in dem Moment eh nicht mit Controller, bei spielen wie Battlefield nutze ich aber beim Fliegen lieber den Controller, aus den schon oben genannten Gründen. Manchmal reicht ein raus und reinstecken des Controllers damit er sich wieder verbindet. Manchmal muss ich aber die ganze Xim entfernen und wieder reinstecken – was auch bedeutet ich muss wieder das Licht der Tastatur abschalten und die App neu verbinden. (damit er mit der Config weiterspielt und nicht den standart Einstellungen)

Zum anderen, das schlimmste wie ich finde, wenn meine Eingabe nicht mehr erkannt wird und ich plötzlich wie ein Kamikazesoldat auf einen Panzer zu stürme. Oder renne mit einem Rechtsdrall. Oft bedeutet dies für mich den Tod und die Xim muss wieder entfernt werden etc.

Manche sagen die Nutzung des Geräts käme Cheaten gleich. Meiner Meinung stimmt das nicht ganz. Weder lässt mich das Gerät durch Wände sehen, noch einen Aimbot benutzen. Es lässt mich nur ein anderes Eingabegerät verwenden. Das es Unfairer gegenüber Controllernutzer ist, möchte ich nicht abstreiten. Aber ein guter Konsolero wird es trotzdem schaffen einen zu besiegen. Abseits davon kommt es mir gefühlt vor das mehr Leute dieses oder Alternativen bereits nutzen. Auch hat man ein Gerät herausgebracht mit dem man ähnliches erreicht und das sogar von Sony lizensiert wurde. Siehe: SplitFish FragFX Shark PS4

Sieht man von der moralischen Frage ab, da man eh keine Moral besitzt, immerhin ist im Krieg und der Liebe ja alles erlaubt, so bereue ich den Kauf nicht. Spiele dessen Multiplayer ich verworfen hätte, wurden durch die Möglichkeit der Tastatur- und Mausnutzung wieder Attraktiv und Spaßig. Ich selbst bin besser als vorher und weiß, wenn ich Ingame das zeitliche Segne, das ich alles gegeben habe, aber trotzdem in dem Moment ein Noob war.

Technische Fehler wie z.B. keine Tastenerkennung mancher Tasten bei Tastaturen oder das sperren der Eingabe und automatische rennen in den sicheren Tod sind durchaus nervig. Kommen aber von der Häufigkeit noch nicht so oft vor das ich vom Kauf abraten würde, aber einen Stern ziehe ich schon ab.

Leider kann ich nicht sagen wie es im Vergleich zu anderen Alternativen ist, wie die oben verlinkte, aber mich hat es soweit Zufriedengestellt und bekommt 4 Sterne von mir.

Ordered this as using my thumbs on the PS4 controller hurts due to my fast approaching old age.
The item arrives with the XIM and it’s 3 way hub.
I updated the XIM to the last east firmware and connected up as per their online forum guides.
Every thing went so well that I was amazed, no more than 10 mins to flash the dongle and set it up.
You use an app on your phone or tablet that loads configured and much more and you setup the keys here and mouse movement and it’s on the fly so it can play around while in game, a really nice touch if I may say so.
I’m using the Logitech 502 mouse and the Cherry KC 1000 which is a £10 keyboard and works a treat.
If you have an issue with your hands like I do and like to play on a console then this will get you back up and running.

I've been using this product for some time now. Although the price I believe is rather steep for what you get it definitely works. As someone who predominantly plays PC the ability to use keyboard is a god send on consoles where native support is not available.

Pros:
Gives the ability to use a MnKB set up
Definitely gives an edge in most FPS games
Good amount of customisation options in the XIM app
Lots of game support - good forum discussion as well

Cons:
Will not work properly with early PS4 controllers - requires the use of a USB headset instead of plugging into a controller .
Will also knock the sound out on an Xbox if connected after the console has booted. Must be set up before hand. I think I noticed this on the PS4 as well. In general, set up the XIM with all connections before you boot up the console.
Requires the use of the XIM app where you have to rely on their service to add game packs. This can sometimes take time due to the seemingly small size of the team. Some games cannot have support provided if they don't have an offline mode from what I can gather.
Steep price for what is effectively an controller emulator.

All I can say is, greatness!
I was skeptical about this. Received yesterday, took some time setting it up, around 2 hours. It's not as easy as it seems. But once you get past that step its all rainbows and unicorns. I love it, playing Horizon Zero Dawn and God of War with my keyboard and mouse has made them so much better already. Actually increased the difficulty on which I play just because it didn't feel as challenging as it had with the controller. Especially aiming arrous in Horizon.
