Pivos just released an Android based super slim box to complement its successful AIOS HD Media Center, Full HD 1080p, Gigabit Network, USB 3.0 data, Flash Reader, 3.5" SATA 2 ? Is Android really the holy-grail of media players ?! well ... read on and tell for yourself.

Check my pictures in the gallery section, a DVD used to get an idea about the size of every thing in comparison.

The retail box: though small and humble is huge compared to how small the actual XIOS is.

Package contents: No quick start leaflet included, quick start guide printed on the inner box.

The device arrived in it's original box in perfect condition. Setup was super easy, I just plugged in some cables and I was set. The first boot took about 5 minutes, but that was expected. Subsequent boots only took about 30 seconds. I didn't mess around much with all the Android stuff because I didn't have interest in that to begin with. Now onto the main reason I purchased this device ... to run XBMC.

I tried the Android version of XBMC and it isn't really ready for primetime yet (imo). The app froze multiple times and I couldn't get any videos to play all the way through without buffering every few seconds; it was a frustrating nightmare. With that said, the app is in beta and definitely has future potential. Had I not done my research about this product I probably would have given up and requested a refund. But since I did do my research, I have this thing working almost flawlessly since I opted to do the XBMC-linux version install.

For those who don't know, doing an XBMC-linux version install will make your PIvos a dedicated XBMC player. That means you will no longer have access to any Andrioid applications (including the Google Playstore); your box will boot straight into XBMC. Installing XBMC in this manner was not very difficult. If you're familiar with rooting Android phones, you won't have any problem. Configuring XBMC can be time-consuming but worth it. I did find the linux version was a lot more stable and after some tweaking, it runs so smoothly compared to the Android version.

Now onto the box itself. It does get a little warm but I have yet to experience any heating issues even though the unit doesn't contain a fan, and because of that, it runs very quietly.

I have this XIOS Media Player for almost a year now and I have experimented a lot with it. If you are looking to put XBMC on it I HIGHLY recommend that you do not use Android's OS and then install the xbmc apk. It will run very slow, lot's of lag, etc. This is what I did:
1) Copy update.img file to mSD card (don't use USB pen drive). You can find this download image at [...]
2) Install the mSD with image in the box.
3) Turn the box upside down and locate the "Upgrade" pinhole at the bottom side of the box.
4) Using a paper clip/pin press and hold the "Upgrade" button on the box, keep the button pressed while turning on the box using the green power button (press once), keep holding the upgrade button several seconds, you will see the system update screen, box will reboot once update is finished.

This will completely erase you Android OS so every time you turn it on it loads right into XBMC. From there follow these easy steps...
1) Scroll to where it says 'System', go into file manager, then you will see an option in the root directory named ''Add source", click on that and then double click where it says enter paths. Then type this EXACTLY like I show.... [...] then hit done and name it fusion.
2) Go back into System but this time click on 'Add-ons' then choose install from zip file, locate fusion, and then it's up to you on what you want to install. I defiantly would put Navi X on there, and 1Channel.

This is irreversible, and whoever tells you otherwise obviously doesn't know how to do it. I have done it so it can be done. You will need to have a computer and SSH into the Media player so you can get into recovery.

People like SacDave should probably not post a review like you did unless you know more about the product.
