1. Register your Drone ASAP using the QR reader on your smart phone. This will allow the camera to connect to the phone via the app that will get downloaded when you scan the codes on the back of the box.
2. Charge the batteries. I had one that took a charge and one that would not. Amazon made it right without sending everything back.
CAUTION: The charger can get very hot on the underside. Remove your finger prints hot!
3. This drone will need to be registered with the FAA.
I have only flown it twice due to weather conditions, but this is a breeze to fly. All the auto buttons work very well. The batteries seam to last about 20 min./flight.
2) Shipping box from wholesaler/manufacturer
--> retailer/seller had a huge gash in it
3) This gash also penetrated to the actual product box
I read the instructions carefully...
I knew I had to calibrate it.
I removed all metal items from on my person
I properly followed instructions to calibrate it & as the lights told me, it was done correctly.
Once set up, connected, and ready to fly... I looked at the info displayed on my phone as it was connected to the drone.
While on the ground: this altitude, speed, & distance were all fluctuating. The map in the corner of the app showed my drone moving around (still while on the groun)
Distance would fluctuate from 0-2 meters
Speed up to 6 m/s
Altitude ****Jumped as LOW as -3000 meters***
Yes negative three thousand meters
I would say I had an average of 8 satilites connected. The most I saw was 13 connected.
I did not take off the first time...
I recalibrated the drone... 4 times, after each time I still had the same fluctuations while it was sitting on the ground (propellers were not even on).
I eventually took off... I hovered a little above eye level (6feet). It constantly had random losses of altitude.
I tried taking it up to about 40m...
I then pushed the home buttton...
The drone lost altitude very fast and took off away from me, I depressed the home button and pressed it again, it swiftly switched directions and became off balanced and canted. A rear rotor brushed a tree which caused the drone to go into a tail dive.
The gimble was damaged in this fall but the rest of the drone seemed okay.
I had very little issue upgrading the firmware and the website is straight forward and easy to navigate. Although I feel like they just launched the site as there are pages with no content. It's possible that the translation is just lacking or something, but this tells me it's, at the least, this is very new to the states.
First day flying was easy to get into and understand right away. I'll have to memorize some of the light patterns and re-teach myself the flight controls (Damn you Modern Warfare). The compass calibration was pretty easy. The connection was strong in a close knit neighborhood and for the most part entirely responsive. I attached the gimbal and was pleasantly surprised with the picture quality and responsiveness of the cell phone view of the camera. The final 1080 video is very good as well, although when moving quickly, the wide angle gives the camera pan an odd warping effect. This is easy enough to control for quality shots.
The point where the gimbal attaches is very minimal. The release mech is even more dainty as it's a small plastic tab that you pull out to release the camera. This tab broke very quickly for me so be very careful when removing the gimbal from the body. Furthermore, the gimbal is a bit awkward to remove. I felt like it was going to detonate, if I made one wrong move. Unfortunately, I have more mechanic hands than Chinese electronic hands, so as I was removing it the entire assembly popped off and dropped to the desk. This broke the gimbal arm and has rendered the camera useless.
This was my doing so I'm not going to discount the company, as it does mention that the gimbal is very sensitive in the instructions, but this gimbal assembly is REALLY FRAGILE. I would recommend removing it in the most delicate way possible. (e.g. over a bed, in an anti-gravity chamber, with hands made of clouds.)
I just emailed the Amazon seller to find out what a replacement gimbal costs, or what I might do about repairing the gimbal. I will update with details about support and part availability. Maybe for being an early US customer, they will do me a solid and repair it for me.
I really like this UAV. I could see almost anyone with decent eye-hand coordination using it for high quality aerial video recording. While my initial plan was to take it with me on outdoor adventures; I'm thinking that it's a bit too fragile for that.
Would I save myself the $400 and buy this instead of DJI? It depends on how easy the parts are to get and how expensive they are. I'd say with great confidence, that if replacement parts are easy to get a hold of and not ridiculously priced, then this UAV is the best buy for the money.
If I have a useless gimbal with no chance of replacement or repair...look to spend a little more and have the available parts.
