When our TV's lamp went out, I was a little concerned about how hard it would be to change this thing out... I'm a computer geek by trade, but I honestly don't know a lot about HD televisions. I took a quick look at my TV's manual, and had learned how to pop the lamp in and out in just a few minutes.
Basically, you pop open one panel, turn a lever and pull out another panel, grab the old lamp by hook/finger handle, gently pull up and out. Push the new one in until it pops into place, make sure you replace the inner panel properly (the one with the lever, if not secured properly, the TV won't turn on), then pop the outer panel back on and there you have it, a TV again.
Our lamp has been in for several months, and the image quality (especially brightness) seems to be as good as I remember the stock lamp. Having said that, it may be the stock lamp.
Summary: if your WEGA or whatever goes black and this lamp fits into your unit, then get one. I like a bright TV in a dark room, as does my wife. We've both put this replacement lamp to it's paces, not to mention we leave the TV on when we're not home.

I wanted to warn those of you who are purchasing this item for a Sony KDF-50E2000 HDTV that you may have to do a little work to make this lamp usable for your tv. After receiving this item, I tried to install it numerous times and while it seems to fit and be secure, the TV power still flashed red when I tried to turn it on, which ment that the lamp or lamp door was unsecured. I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong, until I compared it to the broken lamp. The metal part on the top of the lamp container was different between the two. I wasn't positive this was this issue, but I took my screwdriver and installed the new lamp in the old lamp container and put in my TV. It worked!

It only took about 15 minutes to change out the containers, so for those of you with this TV and don't mind doing a little extra work, this lamp is for you. 3 Stars for inconvenience and having to handle a broken lamp that contains mercury.

amazing all the reviews about no sony.READ THE INFO.it says Sony lamp in new casing.anyway I got the lamp from Lamps Direct LLC.I mention the casing as it's wrong.when you look at your old lamp/casing,you'll see the silver strips above and below the lens are a bit shorter, this is why most people are getting the 3 red flashes, the picture coming on and going off again or the lines on the screen (if it works at all). Take your old lamp apart (one screw) and see how easy it is to remove the old lamp from the casing (one more screw).then do the same to the new one and take the new lamp and put it in the old casing.also swap over the lense as the old one will be faded.all should work fine now with the new lamp/lense in the old case.

Spent more time looking up instructions on the web then it took to install. I really worried about alignment issues, but there was no need to. Install was the easiest 55 seconds of my life. bye

Product was delivered before the cited date and installation was a breeze. At the time, this was the best price I found for this product. I will definitely shop here again if the price is the right price. I've had my TV for 3 years, so I will be back in another 3 years if it holds out.

The ad identifies the lamp as Sony, which I think is unnecessarily misleading because it is NOT a Sony lamp--it is a Phillips lamp. It is, however, completely compatible with our Sony Wega KDF-E42A10 TV. The instructions were easy to follow, and it was relatively easy to install. It comes complete with the bulb already in the housing. The housing wasn't really necessary since the one the burnt out bulb was in was in perfectly workable condition requiring only removing an additional 3 screws or so. In the future, we'd probably just order the bulb without the housing. Once installed, the TV picture was once again bright and seemed as good as new.

Before ordering this bulb, I called around to try and locate a replacement that I could just go pick up. I went to Best Buy and then Howard's Electronics. Neither carried the lamp, but Howard's referred me to a local TV repair place they thought might carry them. I called and it was like pulling teeth just to get information from the woman who worked there. The whole phone call was an exercise in rudenes and that was before I even understood that you could get a non-Sony brand lamp. Initially, I was inquiring about the SONY replacement lamp. After quite a lengthy amount of time I finally got out of her that she could order a replacement lamp, but she would only order the official Sony replacement lamp. She was intensely offended that I would even consider a "knock-off" brand saying it wouldn't work or last as long as the Sony. It took awhile to get a ballpark price out of her, but she finally said (rudely) that the Sony replacement would be around $235.00 or so. As for the Phillips lamp's longevity, we'll see.
