XPEL is stickier than 3M - both good and bad - very curved headlight install

I installed XPEL on the passenger side headlight and 3M on the drivers side of a 2008 Sienna (very curvy headlights). Both were very similar to installing window tint film using water solution with a few drops of soap. The 3M will slide around easily allowing you to work on final location before you squeegee out the water. The XPEL on the other hand tends to stick even with soapy water. This is good for XPEL if you are trying to stretch around corners. The XPEL was a little more flexible or stretchable. This is also bad for XPEL because it makes it a lot more likely to stick and trap debris, trap water and air bubbles and stick where you don't want it. Even with lots of water spray, if you stick and remove, trying too many times, the adhesive gets balled up in places making a visual defect if on a clear surface like a headlight. I'm still undecided on which I would buy if I did it again. I'll update after a few weeks or months to check on performance and how well the water bubbles go away. 3M was easy to push water bubbles out, but XPEL stuck and trapped a few that I couldn't push out. Note that because of the severe curves, I couldn't do this with a single sheet and ended up overlapping two sheets, one low and one hight to handle the curves (both products).

Great film for protecting your car from nastiness!

Xpel film is perfect for protecting your car from random paint problems. In my case I mainly use the film to protect the paint from other things that will be sitting on top of the paint. For instance, I have used this film with car roof racks by placing a rectangle of the film on the paint wherever the rubber bases of the roof rack will sit. This prevents any subsequent "outline" appearing on the paint when the roof rack is removed. I have also used the film with various stickers that might need to be applied to the car (HOV lane passes, etc.) by simply sticking the sticker onto the film, cutting the film down to size, and then applying the film to the car. This results in a solid attachment, but an easily removal later without leaving any sticker residue behind on the car. The film includes the smoothing tool/squeege as shown to make sure you get any air bubbles out. It is very easy to install, and removal is also very easy. The film is not too easy to remove, but it my experience it does remove very cleanly and so far has not pulled any of the paint off when I've removed it (which I've done on several cars). Overall I highly recommend this film if you want to protect certain spots on your car from contact with stickers or other items.

I bought a new truck a few years ago and had an XPEL dealer put the protection on several locations to protect the paint from rocks, tree sap, bugs, frequent use around the door handles and door edge guards. The XPEL product has been working flawlessly.

One item the dealer missed was the dually fender. I bought this kit as a DIY. Cleaned the dually fenders very well and made up a soap bottle just as the instructions said. I then took measurements and cut the provided squares. I then soaped each fender and the film down. Placed it on and gently squeegeed it all out. I then carefully dried the area.

After each dually fender was done, It let them sit for 48 hours to dry out. I still went places, just no washing.

After several months (many pressure 'car wash' washings), they look great and my fenders are now protected.

I was nervous doing this myself for the first time. Watched a few videos and ensured I prepared the surface properly. Followed instructions and it went on like a breeze. Did the rockers on my new silverado and you cant even tell it's there, looks like a professional job. That being said I dont know how comfortable I'd be doing complex surfaces/curves.

I used this Xpel film for the bottom part of the rocker panel on a crewcab 1500 classic. Worked great! First time installer here! I just needed a second person to pull the film and the rest pretty much did it by myself. Few days later I had some tiny bubbles which most were removed by pressing on them and some other with a syringe. I also did my doors, I wish xpel had a larger film on amazon but used 3m for the doors. Both worked great! And I happy of the results, especially this being my first time. Tools needed, squeegee, knife, scissors, baby shampoo, spray bottle, etc.... I recommend this product!
