XShot Pro – The Ultimate Camera Extender for any GoPro and all Compact Digital Cameras!
The XShot Pro is the most versatile sports camera extender available – it is very easy to carry at under 7 inches, yet offers an amazing 32 inches extension to get a wide background and many subjects in the footage. The XShot Pro is designed to withstand the forces experienced in action sports providing a solid platform to support POV cameras. A perfect tool for snowboarders, paragliders, surfers, hikers and any active lifestyle enthusiast, the XShot Pro enables people to capture and share unique videos and pictures of their adventures, anywhere they go.
Made for Action
The XShot Pro lets anyone capture the action in 360° with its precision ball head. Rotate, turn, and twist the camera to whatever position works best – when ready, just turn the knob to lock everything solidly in place. It’s the only extender to have this professional feature allowing you to set any angle you want. The XShot Pro ball head is sturdy because it is cast from pure aluminum – that means there are no plastic parts to snap or jiggle – and each Pro also includes a thick rubber sports grip plus a heavy-duty adjustable lanyard to keep you in control of the action.
Two Heads are Better than One
Let’s face it, the world of action sports is divided into two types of cameras – GoPro, and everything else. Whatever the choice in gear, the XShot Pro is ready. Each XShot Pro comes with two interchangable camera mountings made out of aircraft-grade aluminum, and has a simple system to quickly swap between them. Whether used with a GoPro camera, or any digital camera with a traditional 1/4” screw mount, the new XShot Pro is ready to start shooting right out of the box.
A camera extender is only useful if you take it with you. That’s why the XShot Pro is the lightest and most compact sports camera extender in the world. The XShot Pro weighs a mere 7 ounces and stows down to 7 inches, so it gets out of your way when you’re not using it. When you’re ready, just pull the XShot Pro out to its full 32 inch length and you’re set. No rings, locks, twists or toggles. Just ready for action.

The large adjustment screw that tightens the ball in the socket also failed. It did one of those things where you would turn it and it would get tight, then loose, then tight, then loose...all while you were still turning it clockwise. Stripped threads I guess. I never forced it. It did this on it’s own.
THEN the final failure was the entire head assembly would no longer hold the camera upright That entire cuff that holds the ball started to rotate on it’s own around the stick. Hold it out, camera flops down. Awful. This product failed so miserably I had to revert to holding the camera by hand and got none of the shots I intended. It’s awful. The old XShot XSP2 with plastic components is way better than this thing.
I’m going to return it and see what they say. I don’t think I can trust a replacement, unfortunately. I may work for selfies standing in place, but I would not plan on this for any action sports. Now, to the review I wrote before it failed...
The price of this is outrageous, but let me compare it to the XShot XSP2 which I have used extensively. Firstly, this is an upgrade to the XSP2. Upon close examination it looks like the exact same pole with the mount and grip updated. That's good and bad. The mount on the XSP2 would always wear out on me as it was made of plastic components, the XShot Pro is all metal. That's good. The bad is the grip on the XSP2 was perfect (slim but adequate). The pole of both will wear over time and get more wobble the more you use it, but it's still a good product. Salt water use will further degrade the unit even if you rinse it. So, it's the same old pole, but that's okay because it's light and compact.
So let's talk size, bulk and weight. If you put the GoPro tripod mount on the XSP2, you have the same product, so that's how I compared them. The XShot Pro (XP) is marginally longer than the XSP2 (X2), but not significantly. However, the big rubber handle is bulky and heavy. It makes the camera not fold as compact as the X2. It's a shame they didn't just bring the grip over from the X2.
The XP with GPro mount weighs 8.5 oz. The X2, with GPro mount weights 5.9 oz, and is smaller.
I use this for snowboarding and keep it in my cargo pants pocket. Thus, I travel with it compressed and the camera folded over towards the pole.
It's too bad this is $44, though, it's not worth it. If you are only buying for 1 trip, I'd get the much cheaper XSP2 while they are still in stock. It is the same components, minus a cheaper head. Specially if you are going to go on a trip where you want to dive/snorkle with this. Then just by the cheaper version as you'll probably trash it after one trip of water use anyway.
Bottom line, I just don't think the changes to the original XShot are enough for me to "upgrade" to this so-called "pro" version. Fix the jiggling, fix the handle so it stays put, make ALL of it from METAL parts (don't use ANY plastic), and then I'll buy it!
This thing is solid. Extremely well built. I've read complaints where the head wobbles, but I don't see how that's possible. It not only has an Allen screw with Loc-Tite on it but, there's two pins on each aluminum mount that line up with holes on the part they screw down to. This keeps the mount from rotating. It's a rugged design for such a small part! I'd consider this extender a tool. Something you can maintain and repair. It's all metal except for the cushie grip. The shaft is grooved so it can't rotate, and you don't have to twist to lock it. It's like the antennaes on older cars. You just pull it out to the length you want it at.
It says on the package you can swim with this pole mount, but I would never put this in the water. There's plenty of other choices for underwater use (plastic). Sure there's a little flex to this pole but it's strong point is how compact and tough it is. I don't see how the little bit of flex can be an issue. I'll be using a GoPro and Canon S110 with this when I go to Japan soon. I just know it'll be perfect, and I can't wait!
I highly recommend this to anyone who travels, enjoys well built products, and can take care of their own equipment. If you're doing hardcore stunts, are rough on equipment, or plan on filming underwater, this is probably not the best choice of pole. As small as this is, it feels beefy at any length. For me it's perfect.
