After reading reviews of other products I came back to this one and decided to give it a shot. Upon arrival the Audio dongle and HDMI cable were packaged in a plastic bag - no instructions, no paperwork of any kind, just a plastic bag. I plugged in the HDMI to RCA adapter under the x-box WiFi adapter, plugged in the RCA connections from the Turtle Beach COD Black Ops II gaming headset, and it all worked perfectly.
Not only did I look like the hero to my son by getting his game audio to work in his new headset, I gained an HDMI cable in the process. Don't let the price fool you - if you need an HDMI to RCA connector, this is the one to get.
So I bought this because (like others) I wanted 1080p HDMI to my TV and Dolby Digital Audio through an Optical cable to my surround-sound.
They showed up just in a plastic bag and brown box, and even had a scratch mark on the Audio Dongle. But that is what I expected and since they work fine while costing such little money... I will still give them 5-stars.
I may buy a better HDMI cable, but the one it came with works just fine.
Also there is the KNOWN issue of a non-Microsoft HDMI cable/dongle re-setting your 360 if you switch HDMI in-puts on your TV. This doesnt bother me as I always save my progress and power down before switching my TV over to my blu-ray or cable-box anyway. But I guess if you like to leave your 360 turned on while having your TV turned off and stuff, this could be a problem for you. Again, I knew about this simple quirk before purchasing this low-price cable so I still give it 5-stars.
It works, and you get what you see! What else can you ask for on the cheap?
Everything works fine when I used it with RCA cables to stereo and PC monitor. The HDMI cable is still great and being used on something else. But now since trying to use for a TV the Xbox resets. Then connecting an optical cable to a receiver it does not work. I did the fix where the TV no longer resets but the problem is that the optical input still does not work. It is not worth the hassle to fix this. Not only I had to pry it open, I also had to solder and tape and superglue the casing and bend the metal back on. Monoprice's version is fully functional with no problems whatsoever. This one has been thrown away already. If you want to connect RCA's and a computer monitor it will work great and that is about it. But why get this when there is another one that works 100%? Other ones are also known to suffer from the same issues too.
Much better than spending over $40 for the Micro$oft version.
This is being used with an E Machines DVI input LCD computer monitor along with DVI to HDMI cables. The included HDMI cables were put to the side.
My setup before was doing that hack job by removing the case to fit the HDMI cable in. There are some negatives going with this method. The dongle can be exposed or you can tape it up, either way it is ugly. You also have other long cables being unused. The HDMI cable and the dongle also had to be slightly forced to fit in. I actually had to remove some material from the HDMI cable itself to relieve some stress. Other major problems was it made the monitor non HDCP. Meaning that DVD's and Netflix will not work! Also when booting up it would take a few seconds.
With this adapter booting up was almost immediately. It also removed the HDCP problem! The dongle fitted nicely in back of the Xbox. And of course it does not get in the way of the HDMI cable. The other good thing was it looked cleaner and eliminating the cables you don't need.
I did not realize that this little thing fixed all the problems. Get this now! Another extra is that you are not giving M$ money for their over-priced accessories.
