Now on to the game. I have heard of the Call of Duty games, watches some people play Black Ops, but never have played myself. Lets just say throwing the rabbit to the wolves. I was awful. I am still not that good. But man is it fun to play! May I suggest trying the story line first, and the missions so you can learn the controller a little before you go try the Xbox live player vs player. (if you haven't played before) You will die so many times it's not funny. Some players have been doing this in all of the COD games, and are masters at it. That's not the case for me, and I am sure it shows to the other players. But that's ok, I am slowly getting better!
Game play is smooth, the graphics are great, and the custom classes (prefer pistols? you can fight with those!, Rocket launchers? no problem!) make it so you can tailor it to your style of play. There are plenty of maps so the scenery doesn't get old, and the situation changes so much from game to game its amazing! (I did really well on one campaign, and the next I must have been tossed in with a bunch of seasoned vets, because I got WORKED) A lot of shooters that are one dimensional, this is more like a shooter's RPG. You earn experience as you go, for yourself and your weapons, which in turn makes you more proficient at using them (aka more damage with them, more items you can put on them like silencers, scopes etc) and then as you go, you unlock more weapons to use! There are also call signs you can use, different camo for your gun, the possibilities are amazing.
I don't want to ramble all day and make this a 10 page review...but if you are on the fence about this Xbox, jump down, grab the credit card, and get this already! It's a ton of fun, you get the biggest HD (at the time) offered by Xbox, and the custom paint and sounds on the Xbox (it makes MW3 sounds when you turn it on and open the disc tray) are pretty cool too! You also get 2 wireless controllers, and a headset to get you right in the action!
Not to mention all the other things you can do with your Xbox (Netflicks, Facebook, Movies, Music.....)
(Just a note about my ratings, I took away 1 star on fun, because if you are new to the COD games, it can be frustrating getting killed over and over until you start to get the hang of it. Luckily I took breaks, and realized it was just a game. Once you get the hang of it though, it is a 5/5 stars in the fun department)
If you've seen any of the youtube videos then you know about the sounds and the gorgeous looks, so I'll skip that and go into what they don't show off. The first thing I noticed after a short period is the noise, or the complete lack there of.My old Xbox sounds like a jet, kind of like a Dreamcast if you remember those. This new elite console ONLY makes the noises that it's supposed to which are the Halo 4 sounds programmed in. It is, however, slightly brighter than the old 360 since it is a translucent case. Nothing intrusive by far, but subtle if you occasionally glance at it's beauty. It will not get in the way of playing but may be noticeable watching movies on a smaller TV.
Now as for the controllers, they are the much improved wireless with the new rotating D-pads. The best way to describe the feel is a slick plastic top and a slightly gritty lower half. Grip is fantastic where it needs to be. Even the joysticks have a gritty feel and even after playing 16 hours straight after launch, sweaty thumbs were never a problem.
Now if your looking for a review of the game from me you wont find it here. Too much can be said and I would sound completely MW3. Is this the best one? well to me it is by far, but if your looking at a mw3 Xbox I doubt you haven't decided to get the game yet. If you want a review that sums up my feelings perfectly go to IGN and watch their video review.
So to sum up my feelings about the console this isn't something Microsoft threw together for the holidays so people could spend their money on a rehashed Xbox with new stickers. This IS the MW3 xbox and the best value for anyone looking to either buy their first Xbox console or replace an older model. To parents who read this and are trying to decide whether or not this is for their child or children , you get two IDENTICAL controllers and WIFI built in so no cords to the router. It's just a huge plus that it's so quiet that they don't have to yell over the console or turn up the volume on the TV, or both. You only get the one headset but it IS a standard Xbox headset you can by anywhere. Hope this helps you decide either way but I'm enjoying mine and have no doubts any Halo fan would.
