- Reviewed in the United States on December 23, 2010In the main HT room I have a gigabit switch installed with BluRay, receiver, DISH box and 360 all hardwired to the network. It's a far better solution when you have four components in the same rack that all need connection to the network.
My network includes a superfast DOCSIS cable modem and the blazing fastest wireless N router on the market. This wifi works great with iPhones, iPads and laptops, and has super upload and download performance.
In the kids' play room there's no big networked system, just a tv with a 360. Couldn't justify the effort to run the wire to this room, so I just snapped the wifi adapter to the back and plugged it into the usb outlet.
Having both setups allows me some perspective. The wireless works as well as any wireless-N connection, and is stable enough for most games. Streaming video is fine, with the occasional buffering pause or quality cut.
The hardwired setup has not buffer-paused on me yet. The switch cost about half the amount of this router and had facility to connect not just the game console but three other components as well. Makes it a much better deal. If you have a system that includes a sat box and a blu-ray player as well as the 360, I suggest either a hardwired switch that can connect all your components, or a wireless bridge that can do the same without the wire. This item works well in a remote situation where no other components require network connection.
Netflix and Windows Live movies from your computer both stream better over a hardwired connection than over wireless. If you're planning to stream Netflix, you can do it over this modem but once again a cat 6 wire costs next to nothing and works a ton better.
I'm a fan of wireless, and this one works well in the application it's used for.
But bottom line is, no fancy wifi connection can compare to a simple, cheap wire for streaming HD content to your home theater. If you're not afraid of the installation, run the wire and be happy with the performance rather than settle for the wireless compromise. If the only component you'll be networking is your xBox 360, this thing is actually rather brilliant--it requires no extra cables or power supply and snaps right on the unit. I'm predicting happiness.
As for the guy that recommends other brands of gaming routers, I will agree, if they can be switched to a wireless bridge mode and connect multiple components, they can be a great deal, especially if you're renting your space and hardwired connections are impractical. You can get your whole system on a network without a hardwired switch if you need to, with a single wireless appliance. That would make this little unitasker unneeded.
But for many of us who just connect the XBox to the TV and that's the extent of it, this little guy is the simple, elegant solution.
If that's you, I recommend this item.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2010Im 17 and I bought this wireless router about a month ago for my new Xbox 360. When i purchaced it the price was $75 so i thought it would be a good deal considering the white one was $70.
I went home plugged it in(it snaps into the back of the system so you really don't see it, just the grey antena(s) and i went to network settings and looked for an access point. In the first try it found it and i set up xboxlive. I really dont have any problems with the router just sometimes it will get lag but i have a feeling thats on the other end with my router.
So overall i think its a great deal, especially if you can get it cheaper on amazon because they have good deals and you can usually get free shipping. Plus it advertises that this one reaches further than the white one,so if you can get a good deal, do it!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 29, 2009This thing is awesome & does the job flawlessly! I bought this to hook up my son's XBOX in his room & the router is in the living room so I didn't want to have a 50ft ethernet cord running across two rooms. I was a little worried I wouldn't be able to figure it out, but it was a breeze for the lamen tech savvy person. I simply got the ip & password off of the router & it basically lead me through the set up. It is a tad on the pricey side, but you definitely get what you pay for & the convenience is simply priceless. The signal is strong & we've been using it for over a month now & it's never dropped a signal or been slow. We also use Netflix on both our XBOX & PS3 & I can't tell the difference between the picture quality on either one, so the External Router VS built in Wi-Fi has definitely been well worth the price. I would like to just mention that the PS3 comes standard with the built in Wi-Fi so there is no additional expense for it, & it took us under a minute to get it going, I wish Microsoft would have followed suit but I know this system is more about gaming & storage rather than those extras, just a thought because it would have been nice to have on a $400 elite system. I suppose its all about the XBOX live so you need it either way. The ports in my router are all being used because they couldn't put the home unit in the main area because of something with the competitor cable company, so for me it's a necessity or we have to disconnect another tv or blu ray player to use it & it's just a hassle as well as has caused it to reboot & shut down so it's well worth the price. **Just a note, I noticed if you place something in your cart & then save it for later, you can keep tabs on the price flux & in all the times I've done this, it appears that Amazon lowers the price on items I've saved maybe once a week. I saved this item after it came out for appx 100 & the next week it went down to 79 so I purchased it that day, and by the end of the day it had gone up to 89. I've left one in my saved items just to monitor if it went down again & it hasn't, so if you're looking for one you might want to try this as well. Good luck!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 8, 2014I bought mine used so that could be the problem, but whenever I turn on my console it doesn't connect to my xfinity wifi box thats just 10 feet away in the living room and when I turn off the xbox it stays on until I press the power button another 3 to 5 times and it never did this before i installed this thing to the back and a black 120gb hard drive but i think its the wifi because i had that for a few days before i picked up the new hard drive. basically it just takes a little bit longer to get it ready to play games and it wont turn off properly only when the wifi adapter is plugged in and attached, i would recommend an inter cool external fan system if your using this on any white models such as an arcade or pro model

Mr. DouglasReviewed in Canada on October 17, 20124.0 out of 5 stars Wireless Adapter
For 50$, I had moderate expectations for this product. This wireless adapter runs smoothly and never gives you any problems but, if you have a weak router on the opposite side of the house this thing won't pick up immensely on the signal (which is why I'm going to get a wifi booster). All in all though, I'd definitely recommend this router, works almost instantly! (From the moment you plug it in.)
